With gas prices on the rise how much power do you really need? Just give me enough to get on the interstate safely and pass the slow moving campers and 18 wheelers and I'm good to go.
I like the L-finesse don't really need L-real fast.

lexus only claims 7.9 0-60, but CD got 7.1. pre 98 sc4's only do 6.8-6.9.
yes the 350 has holy **** power, but the 250 is no slouch. plus, do you want the bare bone 350 or a loaded 250? what's more enjoyable in the end? you can only race so much. plus 30+ mpg highway
350 is only worth it if you get same options.
want awd and power, go gs

But that depends on where the "useable power" of the IS250 lies on the rev range..
My C240 develops most of its power above 4000 rpm (no, its not VTEC, thank you).. that means its surprisingly strong above 140kmh, but barely enough down below (where legal speeds reside).

And in Europe, there is a 520, making a whoping 170hp
The IS 250 again, has more than enough power. Its a total package. People get so caught up in peak HP numbers, its insane. Especailly when family cars like Camrys, Accords and Altimas make over 240hp

I think my 250 give me enough power for daily driving. I picked 250 because I just want a luxary & RWD car. Of course, if I use my 250 to compare my brother's EVO VIII, my 250 is a "slow" mobile.

IS250 or 350 for Horsepower
Aloha,
I test drove both the IS250 and 350. If you do primarily town driving, then the 250 has more than enough power.
I decided to buy the 350 since 1. I did not want to regret it latter and 2. while the 250 is great, when I test drove it going up a long steep rise, I could feel and hear the motor working.
In the end, its how you plan to use the car...if you are the type to lament, then get the 350.
Thanks.

I just dont understand all these people from the northeast [PA is NOT northeast by the way] claiming they need awd. I have lived in mass my whole life and I dont believe you need awd unless you live on remote country roads that wont get plowed like the city does or you have a steep driveway. do you stop and think how many days a winter we actually get snow? I am betting its never more than 20. obviously I am not willing to pay for awd when I wont need it 17/18ths of the year. but maybe I am wrong. then there are exceptions like buffalo... .

You're correct, we don't have a lot of snow days. But, when we do, like almost two months ago where we got 20 inches, awd helps. And yes, I do live in the hilly part of town so I need awd. I remember my LS400, SC300 and SC430 slipping and sliding all over the place during snow days.

It really depends on what car your coming from to see if it's adequate power. I'm coming from a car with a 0-60 time of 11secs on a good day so a 250 or a 350 would be a drastic improvement. The 250 is more than enough speed for alot of people it seems from what I'm reading on here.
You have to remember the 350 is rediculously quick. Fastest in it's class. If I can't find a base 350 then I'll be more than content with a 250 with some options. Either way good luck and we'll both be in the Lexus IS club soon enough

Talk to David Helden in internet sales. Tell him that Tuan Sent you. Otherwise you can go to Lindsay Lexus in Alexandria, they will find the car for you
I bought my Base 350(with 18s, trunk mat and wheel locks) for 35800, from Lindsay Lexus

Either way both cars were bare bones, just with the 250, I would have 4K more in my wallet. I chose the 350, the better brakes, and the added power is more than worth 4K.
The 250 AWD is good enough for most people. So, the best way to find out is to test drive it for yourself.... avoid driving the 350 though.... cause you could find yourself in one.

I never drove a 350 before I bought my 250, but my previous car had 200 HP and weighed 1100 pounds more than the 250, so it made me feel I was driving a much quicker car. I'm also getting 5-6 more MPG in my 250 than in my previous car. I would have liked a 350 but the 250 was in my price range and I did not need the extra power to drive 5 miles to work everyday.

It's good for daily commute.. however, if you're a more aggressive driver.. it may be insufficient for your "needs". I drive fairly conservative so I have kinda gotten used to the power.. not great but not awful. Power isn't everything..

I got $1200 off at Lindsay Lexus. But that was in november, maybe you can do better now.
At Pohanka, I didnt see many 350's(my cousin just bougt a 250 from them) So I doubt they would give anything off a 350.
They did give my cousin 1K off his 250 though. They offered 1.5K on an AWD w/Nav
