So, if they make the IS460 for an extra 4-5k over the IS350, we'd all be trading in our cars, right?

at taste of lexus i drive the IS350 first, then afterwards stood in line and drove the IS250, no offense to 250 owners but it was a snoozefest for me, plus no snow or anything in houston so i dont need AWD etc. 2nd time I test drove the IS at the dealer with my dad, he was curious after i kept talking about it, the salesman said if you want to drive an IS start off with the 250 drive then go with a 350 drive

So whereever that 4:1 number came from, if that was the plan, for every 350 that they produced, they would have produced 4 250s. Based on the sales numbers and their "caught by surpise" demand for the 350, that should explain those hundreds or thousand of 250s sitting in dealer lots then.

I just wish some of those less in demand 250s would show up at the two dealerships that I looked at. Seems like they are being left out while there are thousands of 250s out there while people wait for the 350s to be produced.

Joking aside, the 250 will always outsell the 350. For any manufacturer, the least expensive and most expensive models are the most important. It may be 2:1 one month, 3:1 another month. Japanese car companies are masters at predicting demand in general. They always keep supply and demand well-balanced. I would seriously doubt that Lexus underestimated anything. They will keep supply tight for a while so that the buzz will grow for these "elusive" machines.
Despite your sarcasm, the 350 has been harder to find than the 250 for many people. The fact that people are on wait lists probably means that Lexus did underestimate the demand. I don't think they want a delay in getting you the product any more than you want to wait.

And, there are over 200 Lexus dealerships in the US. Just because there are no extra 250's in your area doesn't mean that is true in general. I have seen posts on here where one person in Florida said their dealership had 20+ 250's in stock. Say each dealership on average has 4 250's on their lot. That would be over 800 cars.

At the end of the day, all I'm trying to say is that Lexus gave the ratio of 4:1, and what we are seeing so far is 2:1. Why that may be is anyone's guess, but my guess is stronger demand for the 350 than they estimated.
