You can just tap it into the power source for the auto-dimming rear view mirror. IMO it's way easier than wiring it to a fuse and running wire all down the car.

I am going to install my old V1 to my new IS 250 this weekend.
Probably I will tap power to the rear view mirror.
Need to get a new phone cord since original cord was sold with my Prelude (wired under dashboard).
Hope it will be good.

I just installed my V1 this way, IMO it's the best way since you're not rigging anything up and it only takes 5-10 minutes. I've been doing it this method in the past 3 cars I had.

This weekend I'm hopefully going to follow WALDIS350's instructions from posts 137-139 of this thread and hard wire both my radar detector and new dash cam to my mirror. I had a few questions first.

I'm going to be hardwiring my Beltronics V955 radar detector and my dash cam (essentially this: http://www.amazon.com/Dashboard-Came...7084056&sr=8-2). The radar detector appears to use just a phone cord (RJ11) for power, and the dash cam uses mini USB.

I've looked up pinout diagrams for the RJ11 and mini USB, so I know which cords are positive and which are negative when I strip each. I would like to then just plug those cords into their respective places in the wiring harness of the mirror.

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to vehicle electrical systems/wiring. Is there anything I need to check out/verify before doing this? Voltages of the devices, etc? Am I at risk of blowing or damaging something by connecting both of these to the wiring harness of the mirror?

Does anyone know where to find the male connector end wiring pins that WALDIS350 used? They appear to just be small cylindrical copper connectors that you wrap wires around on one end and plug into a wiring harness.

Which ports of the wiring harness (identified by color of wire currently plugged in) do I plug positive and negative into? Blue and orange? I have a 2007 IS350.

Ok about to hardwire my Escort 9500ix to the rearview mirror using a blend mount and stealth cord on my 2008 350. Just read the entire thread and the general consensus I got was its red to blue and green to orange. My question is the stealth cord is black and red, so what goes to what? thanks

just insert the wire in either one, before you put everything together plug the radar and turn the ignition on, if it doesn't power up just reverse them and you're good to go.(TEST AGAIN) it wont hurt anything.

Just hardwired my 9500ix to the rearview mirror. Turned out pretty well. Used a stealth wire and blendmount. Seems most were using a wire that was red and green that tapped into the mirrors blue and orange wires. For the stealth wire, after some trial and error I found that its red to orange and black to blue.

Use a Torx 20 to undo the single screw and the mirror slides right off


Disconnect the mirror and carefully expose some of the wires on Blue and Orange. Wrap the Red wire around the Orange and Black with the Blue. Solder and use some electrical tape to clean things up - this pic is just to show the colors sans tape

I just finished hardwiring my Escort 8500 x50 using the mirror tap. Wel a knock off of the mirror tap that I got off ebay for like 10 bucks. I highly recommend it if you're too lazy on making one from phone cords.

So anyways.. its surprisingly simple!! For those of you with a 2011+, our mirror wiring is different! Just remove the mirror with a T-20 Torx bit, and you'll get to see your wires. Unclip the power from the mirror and remove the mirror.

The easiest way I found to do hook up the stealth cord mirror tap is to go through the car side. There are only 3 wires coming from the car.. a Black one, an Orange one and a White with black stripes.

The Black is a Switch Power
White with Black Stripes is the Ground
Orange/ Peach is the Constant Power.

If you want the Radar Detector to turn off when you turn off the car, you want to tap into the Switch Power..(Black one). now For those of you with the Red and Black wiring colors on your stealth cord, look at your instructions that came with your cord... for me, Red was to Power and Black was to Ground.. (opposite of the car I guess).

So with the taps, just stick it into the end of the plug on the car side and test to make sure you get power to your detector.

Thats about it! Screw everything back and boom! done! All it took me about 30 min to do this... Not too bad.
