And yeah I've done that more than once in my old car, but since I always have to take the iPod and put it back into the cubby after I leave, I always make sure it's off anyhow.

hehe, ok yeah, makes sense.
so if you use the dock connector to connect to power, when you shut off the car, the ipod will sense this and pause and then shut off automatically.

Probably, but once again that power to the dock connector is where everyone's getting the whine and bad sound quality from. Just charge it at home, leave plug it in, and unplug it before you leave. Your iPod will turn itself off once you unplug stuff from the headphone port.

Another good thing about the dock connector is that it totally ignores the volume on your iPod. The connector itself has a volume ****. You should leave it at about 7 and the music sounds fine with no distortion regardless of the volume on your ipod. This procedure lets you control the volume with your head unit. It works very well.

A side note on volume...
...I get the crackling when charging too, but i just dont listen and charge at the same time. What i did notice was that if i turned SOUNDCHECK off on the ipod, the volume level increased a great deal on all the things i played. Its like the ipod turns everything down to compensate, rather than up. Just a little sidenote...

Very true about the soundcheck. Get a loop noise isolator from Crutchfield and it'll solve the crackling/humming sound when you have your Ipod plugged in. I use a Monster charger, the loop noise isolator and of course the mini stereo cable and it sounds great in my vehicle. In addition I use the belkin Ipod cup holder and able to close the center console so everything looks neat and tidy.

Take a gander at this site I found. This claims it can integrate the ipod controls into the head unit of the IS with or without navigation. I believe it only works with playlists though, not sure.

This is interesting because the sight advertises this as the neo-ion - yet the picture and diagram are the exact same for the vias unit - which on their site states that the unit will not work with the 2006 is250/350 - I'd be cautious here....

Overall, the AUX setup in the IS is not very sophisticated, and you can't do a lot with it, but it works OK.
