Default Confused, just how much is registration costs?

This is my first car I am purchasing on my own and was curious about some pricing.

Here is the breakdown of the price. IS-250 AWD + PA Pkg.
MSRP: 35068 (includes 590 destination charge) + 100 dealer processing fee + 5% MD Sales Tax = $36,921 - $2500 discount off MSRP = $34421. If the quoted OTD price is $35,647.00, then that means registration fees are around $1226? Does that sound about right or is this fuzzy math. I should of asked the salesman while I was there but I was pretty tired when all was said and done and the car is not getting here for another few days anyway and only a deposit has been made. I'll call the salesman tommorow but was just curious.

Thanks for all the helpful information on here. I should be driving a new IS by the end of this month. I knew I wanted this car before I even took a test drive. After taking the test drive I can't wait.

No way to tell for sure. Not matter what is said here, you're going to have to reread it again when you get there. That's why I like to deal with the price only and all those other things get taken care of later. Leaves too much wiggle room like from your math were the sale tax was applied before the discount off msrp....fuzzy.

Different states have different car registration methods. In Texas it is like $60-$90 (depending on weight I think), but we pay 6.25% (in my county anyway) sales tax. Other states have registrations based on a percentage of the price of the car, but lower (or no) sales tax. You could also call the state (or local branch) registration office and get a ballpark on what it should be.

Here is a link to the Maryland vehicle registration site

That number doesn't sound right at all. Registration in our state is in the hundreds of dollars, and exist as a set number. Also, you took the discount off MSRP after you did the sales tax- you may want to reverse the order of those figures.
