Tranny appears to hang onto a gear
Has anyone noticed the tranny hanging onto a gear? I was driving on the highway today with the display showing the current gear. I had the ECT/Power button enabled, and hit the gas. The tranny downshifted to 3rd, but even after I eased off the the throttle, it didn't immediately go to 4th, 5th, or 6th. Take my foot off completely and accelerating again appeared to make it go away. This in on a 250.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?

So it's normal for it to hold third? It was weird, it just stayed on third, until I decelerated a bit and then it was back to its normal self. I had a hard time reproducing it, but the first time I accelerated through the on ramp, so 1st, 2nd, hit 3rd and held it.

I think this is normal, mine does this with third and fourth gears, depending on how fast I'm travelling. Normally if I hit it and it hangs onto the gear, i'll let off, give it a little throttle and let off and it will upshift to a normal gear. I turned off the ECT pwr button and tried this again and it didn't hold onto the gear. Keep in mind ECT is more of a sport version driving, so the ECU is thinking you're wanting to keep going at full throttle/agressive driving. Kills mpg but it is fun haha

That is ECT pwr mode for you! Start learning when and where and what speeds the car will shift up or down. Its an automatic, but you still can learn when your car will shift.

Thanks, the IS250 is my wife's car, so this is the first time I noticed it hanging onto a gear. Kinda scared me at first, but I feel better about the whole thing.
Sigh ... things are so much simpler with a manual tranny
