Toyota oil filter IS350
(short version)Anyone buy a oil filter for your IS350 yet? what part number you get?
(Long Version) I stopped by my friendly Lexus dealer on the way home from the beach to visit with them. While there I purchased a OEM Toyota oil filter. I told the parts guy, its for a IS350. I buy the filter , #31060, don't pay any attention to it. Say goodbye to the sales guys, chase'em away from my wife, and motor on home.
At work today I was comparing prices, looking for a cheaper purchase point than $8.25 and saw those boys at Sewell have a much better price, and more importantly. A different Part Number !
According to the sewell website it says #31060 is for AWD. I gather from that, its for a IS250. I don't think there is a 350 AWD.
At the Sewell website, they recommend a #31080 for 350 & 250 RWD. I'm a little concerned now. I guess when I open the filter canister on the engine, I'll be able to tell if it will fit.
If it don't, I'm SOL , cause my friendly Lexus dealer is 167 miles away.
Guess I can go to the local toyota dealer and see if they have the number/filter I need. Let me know what you guys/gals have bought.
I appreciate it

I believe someone shared an excellent post with photos of the actual oil change procedure (on an IS250, I believe). Good luck with your oil change! I'm planning on doing my oil change next month.

O-Rings
Hey, Thanks SportyStar, Gsrthomas, muzzman. That sounds good. I just left the first set of numbers off and went with the 31060 part number. you knew what I was saying.
31060 does have two O-rings and a little plastic thingy.(you already knew that)
Thanks for the reassurance.
$23 dollars and change is not bad for the 4 filters. Looking at it though, It should only cost us $3.00. Packaging(box), O-rings, platic thingy, Filter. Small amount of media. I mean its not a spin on type, in the metal Can with a bypass valve. Catridge type filters do have less waste, than the bigger spin-on type. So I guess its better for the landfills and manufacturing. Its something though, as technically advanced the IS250/350 is, this car uses a filter with really old school technology from the 1950's: A cartridge filter. All cars had cartidge filters back then and spin on was invented sometime in late 50's early 60's. Pretty wild.
With that small amount of filter media, I doubt if I would leave it on the car for 5k miles.

Thanks !
Hey I appreciate that Dave !! every little bit helps, especially with gas at +$3 a gallon.
I read that motor oil prices are/will be climbing also.
I saw on another thread the IS350 requires 6.6 quarts of oil.
That's more than my Jeep(6 quarts). The more oil, the easier the motor can dissipate heat generated from those 300+ horses. puts a smile on your face

The advantage with cartridge filters is that the tech can inspect it for wear particles easily, chrome, brass, iron, carbon,...whereas the canister filter would require cutting open each time.
