Default Toyota oil filter IS350

(short version)Anyone buy a oil filter for your IS350 yet? what part number you get?

(Long Version) I stopped by my friendly Lexus dealer on the way home from the beach to visit with them. While there I purchased a OEM Toyota oil filter. I told the parts guy, its for a IS350. I buy the filter , #31060, don't pay any attention to it. Say goodbye to the sales guys, chase'em away from my wife, and motor on home.
At work today I was comparing prices, looking for a cheaper purchase point than $8.25 and saw those boys at Sewell have a much better price, and more importantly. A different Part Number !

According to the sewell website it says #31060 is for AWD. I gather from that, its for a IS250. I don't think there is a 350 AWD.
At the Sewell website, they recommend a #31080 for 350 & 250 RWD. I'm a little concerned now. I guess when I open the filter canister on the engine, I'll be able to tell if it will fit.

If it don't, I'm SOL , cause my friendly Lexus dealer is 167 miles away.
Guess I can go to the local toyota dealer and see if they have the number/filter I need. Let me know what you guys/gals have bought.
I appreciate it

Interesting, but to my knowledge all filters for the new IS should be the same. I dont know why they wouldnt be.

Hope someone can chime in and let us know.

I bought four of them today....they are cartridges and the four cost $23.xx with tax...the part # is 04152-yzza3

FYI My car is a 250, but in the past and today I JUST specified an "'06 is"...and that is the filter they brought me....

Default Difference Between Oil Filters 31060 & 31080

Yes, I bought a couple from my Lexus dealer and they also gave me the 31060 filter. You're right, it is technically for the IS250 AWD (and GS300 AWD), however the filter dimensions are the same as the 31080 filter. The only difference is, the 31060 contains two o-rings, a large and a small. The 31080 only contains one large o-ring. So the small o-ring is not required for the IS350 and IS250 RWD. I figure Lexus superceded the 31080 to the 31060. Since the latter filter kit contains all necessary o-rings plus the plastic stopper device, they've got all bases covered for IS250 RWD/AWD, IS350 RWD, and GS300 RWD/AWD.

I believe someone shared an excellent post with photos of the actual oil change procedure (on an IS250, I believe). Good luck with your oil change! I'm planning on doing my oil change next month.

Do your filters come with any o-rings? If not, I'm assuming 04152-YZZA3 is the (correct) part # for the filter only, as opposed to the -31060 and -31080 numbers which are kits containing filter, o-ring(s), and plastic stopper device.

On top of the box it says:

Default O-Rings

Hey, Thanks SportyStar, Gsrthomas, muzzman. That sounds good. I just left the first set of numbers off and went with the 31060 part number. you knew what I was saying.
31060 does have two O-rings and a little plastic thingy.(you already knew that)
Thanks for the reassurance.
$23 dollars and change is not bad for the 4 filters. Looking at it though, It should only cost us $3.00. Packaging(box), O-rings, platic thingy, Filter. Small amount of media. I mean its not a spin on type, in the metal Can with a bypass valve. Catridge type filters do have less waste, than the bigger spin-on type. So I guess its better for the landfills and manufacturing. Its something though, as technically advanced the IS250/350 is, this car uses a filter with really old school technology from the 1950's: A cartridge filter. All cars had cartidge filters back then and spin on was invented sometime in late 50's early 60's. Pretty wild.
With that small amount of filter media, I doubt if I would leave it on the car for 5k miles.

Yes it came with a large o-ring. I have changed the oil three times now,and this has been the filter I used in every case.

This one (31090) is used on the Port injected 3.5 liter ES350 and RX350 and not on the IS. It is shorter and not the right cartridge for an IS/GS. The (31060) and (31080) are interchangable and congruent. One will have an extra O Ring (small) and a plastic spout to conveniently drain the contents of the filter housing on the AWD versions of the IS250/GS300. The IS350 doesn't need the spout and its extra O Ring so if you got that in your kit you can discard it. The filter elements are the same and the larger O Rings are the same. Now after you're done did you check for any leaks and remember to turn off the service reminder light?

Yes, interesting indeed. While the cartridge-style filter is not uncommon in many 90s and up BMWs and Mercedes, I never expected Toyota/Lexus to utilize a cartridge design. Back to the "old school" comment, I remember I once sold a cartridge-style filter for something like a '57 Chevy and the customer joked that if he hadn't found the filter, he was ready to drop a fresh roll of toilet paper into his filter housing as a substitute.

Default Thanks !

Hey I appreciate that Dave !! every little bit helps, especially with gas at +$3 a gallon.
I read that motor oil prices are/will be climbing also.
I saw on another thread the IS350 requires 6.6 quarts of oil.
That's more than my Jeep(6 quarts). The more oil, the easier the motor can dissipate heat generated from those 300+ horses. puts a smile on your face

The advantage with cartridge filters is that the tech can inspect it for wear particles easily, chrome, brass, iron, carbon,...whereas the canister filter would require cutting open each time.
