Sun roof rattle - anyone else experience this?

I had the same problem, but seemed to have fixed it.
If you stand outside the car and push the moonroof up (from the inside) you'll notice that the sound is from the rubber seal rubbing against the frame of the car. I believe this is because of the dirt on the rubber seal.
Open the moonroof all the way and wipe down the rubber seal (you'll notice that it will be kinda dirty). Wipe down the cutout in the roof also. Then tilt the moonroof and wipe the rubber seal in the back.
This should take care of the problem.

the original post was about a rattling not squeaking. I just got my IS yesterday and noticed a metallic rattle when I was going over uneven pavement with the sunshade open. Even closed I hear a little bit. Can't be rubber seals causing metallic rattling. Anyone else get a rattle and can post a fix or know what their dealer did? Thanks!

Count me in as of today...
It has been very minor mostly... but tonight it has gotten very pronounced. The sound is quite aggrivating. Should I bring it in? or should I try to lubricate the seals myself?

It might be that piece that comes up when the sunroof is open (kinda like a mini wind blocker). Even when the sunroof was closed I noticed it vibrated (if you open the sun shade you can stick your fingers in there and feel it).

Mine does it in the "Tilt" position. It’s the black U shaped some sort of casing that is not completely secure and on un even roads, it rattles. I grabbed it with one hand and it stops? This seems to be a design flaw? Have anyone taken their car to the dealer for this? What did they say?
Thanks.
Thanks.

It's not a good reason to have it rattle when the car flexes. Have you heard of other car have the same problem? We brought our car to dealer at the 5 k service and as far right now it's fix.
Normally it will rattle when you open the sun roof shade but once it's close, the rattle goes away. Now it's all fix!!

An update
When I went out to the car, i simply pressed on the sunroof all around from the outside. The rattle is now nearly gone!!! Thats all I did was press on the seal. The rattle is still there, but much more tolerable.

same problem... but it's extremely inconsistent. sometimes happens when closed, sometimes fully open, or sometimes on tilt. Also, sometimes I hear it a few days in a row, and then other times it goes away for a week or two.

I have the same problem too...
I took it to a dealer to fix, but once they've fixed the rattle they introduced another problem to the sun roof; now whenever I slide open the sun roof, the rear part of it always makes a loud "clunk" noice ... took it back to the dealer but they couldn't fix it... I'm still waiting for that problem to be fixed.

Drove the car again this evening... NO RATTLE.
Simply pressing the edges of the sunroof seemed to fix this? This sounds too easy but thats all I did and it worked great! Opened and closed it once still no rattle. I like easy solutions but why does it seem to good to be true?

I had the same problem. I promised on another thread that I would post how my dealership (Jim Falk Lexus in Beverly Hills) fixed this for me, but I COMPLETELY forgot... So, here goes, this is the exact text from the service bill:
A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM SUN ROOF WHEN INTERNAL COVER IS OPEN
CAUSE: FOUND GRIP HANDLE CLIPS RUBBING AGAINST BODY
743991 GRIP HANDLES RUBBING AGAINST BODY 600WL
FC: 91, 83 PART#: COUNT: CLAIM TYPE: RG AUTH CODE:
REMOVED HEADLINER AND INSULATED ALL FOUR GRIP CLIPS.
This COMPLETELY fixed the problem for me... Hope this helps some of you!

gdogie - most likely a loose glass
Most issues with these are with loose glass. Slide back your shade, remove the rubber cover on whichever side is loose (if glass). You will see the screws to tighten up front or near the rear. Just tighten them up, but don't over tighten. Pop the rubber accordion covers back on . All done. If you can move the glass but the case is tight, I think this may be your issue. I did this on mine a few months ago.
