Default How many of you guys are planning to use synthetic oil?

Hey guys, I have always used synthetic oil on all the cars I have owned. I think it helps the longevity of the vehicle. I know its gonna be a lot more expensive than regular oil. I'm just curious.

One of my cars is only allowed to have synthetic (Audi TT Roadster) and the other always got it (Volvo). So I'll make no changes moving into the Lexus.

My vote is Synthetic.

Your engine is going to outlive the rest of the car by a fair margin even if you use conventional oil every 7500 miles. How many millions of miles do you plan on keeping your engine?

you wont really have much of a benefit of conventional vs synthetic unless you start taking the oil a bit past the oil change interval which is where synthetic starts to shine

I ran synthetic is my 968 porsche, it seemed to run much smoother but that was a much older car. So when we went in for the first oil change on our 400h i figured synthetic was the obvious choice, but the tech told me Toyota doesn't recommend it. I askd a few questions and pretty much went with their recommendation which was good enough for me! So i plan on using regular and changing the oil every 5000 miles just like the manual states.

I've used Mobil 1 with every car I've owned since I was 16, and I'm not going to change now.

Yeah, Id agree with that. Mechanics always told me that synthetic oil is good only for longer durations without changing and also certain driving conditions. If Lexus doesnt require synthetic, I dont think I'll use it.

I pick my motor oil based on whichever NASCAR wins the latest race.

I'm already running Royal Purple in my IS - changed it at 2,000 miles.

Synthetic is a huge waste of money. Lexus warranty requires an oil change every 4-6 months, so you're flushing the extra price of synthetic down the drain, literally.
