Default Footwell lighting on at night?

I noticed today on my way into work (in the dark) that the footwell lighting stayed on (it's the first time I've driven at night with the new car). Is this normal? I don't know that I like the extra ambient light...

Yes, the footwell lighting is normal. Interesting huh? The lights stand out a little more since I have the all weather mats. I've had the car almost two months...so, I dont notice the lights as much. Congrats on the new car!

Turning the instrument panel light control fully to the left disables the footwell and shift lever lighting.

That's a really good point. Thanks. That would make the click more meaningful when you turn the instrument panel light button all the way to the left. (the click is present in some other Lexus cars (the 1st gen IS was an exception) to make the instrument stay the brightest in daytime)

As part of the Lexus Personalized Settings, you can specify having the L.E.D. foot lights and the L.E.D. shift light turned off. Personally I do not like the foot light as it reflects on the side windows. And I really do not need to see how unpolished my shoes are

turning it all the way left also turns off ALL of the instrument panel lights and all lights in the dash.

I actually kinda like it. There is also a light that shines down on the center console. Kinda like mood lighting...

I noticed that as well. I like it all except perhaps the footwell lighting, since it seems a bit bright. But I'll live with it for a while and see what I think in a few months.

The little light is useful, especially for passengers when they drop something on the floor. It makes the cabin user friendly. It also makes the cabin less claustrophobic/empty feeling. I like it...

That's impractical because LEDs scatter very little light...footwell/puddle lights need to scatter some light to be useful. It wouldn't make much sense to have LEDs in your footwell because you'd only have a small circle of light in the floorboard.

I am pretty sure the lights in the footwells are LEDs. I will have to go down and check. I was really refering to the main cabin lights that come on when a door is open and the puddle lights in the mirrors...

My Audi had red ambient night lighting. It was as effective as the white LEDs for tasks like counting change, but less distracting and didn't harm night vision at all. Of course red would look silly with the white electroluminescent gauges in the IS.

There are LED footwell lights on full time at night, as well as a single LED projecting downward from the moonroof control console to illuminate the shifter area. Like you I didn't expect lighting in those areas, but have grown to like it.
