Well, if thats the case then all aftermarket rims, grilles, spoilers, clear-sidemarkers, body kits, side-skirts...etc are all rice. I don't think "rice" is the right term for any of these. I think the word "rice" should only refer to aftermarket parts that DO NOT flow well with the rest of the vehicle. In other words, an enormous spoiler or a huge coffea-can muffler or LEDs on windshield washer sprayers are all examples of rice because they totally stick out and don't flow well with the rest of the vehicle.

So any non-functional exterior modification is rice? That includes: spoiler, body kit, wheels (unless they are lighter I presume, therefore performance related), window tint, tail light red-out, painting of calipers, painting of grill, painting head lamps, and any custom paint job that is not Lexus OEM.

While I do think the shark fin is somewhat cool, I wouldn't put it on my car... but I do NOT consider it rice... who comes up with these crazy rules? Rice has always been a matter of taste and generally related to Japanese after market tuner parts. Assuming Lexus designs their products in good taste, and this is a Lexus OEM part, it therefore cannot qualify as rice. Just like the flaming chicken hood decal I'm putting on my buddies trans-am without his knowledge can't be considered rice because it isn't of Japanese tuner origin. ;-)

Spoiler looks like a spoiler = not rice

You don't like chrome headlights and you paint it black = not rice

An ANTENNA which is NOT one = RICE!

I m sorry again I am not saying anything about the design of the actual thing, it's just the fact that theres no use of an antenna and that shark fin is an antenna, it will look good I am sure about that. But it's not there for the actual reason.

Anyways, maybe I've got bad english. All I m trying to say, peace.

Matt =)

So, if that antenna was plugged in, inside the roof where absolutely no one could see it, then it wouldn't qualify as rice?

Yea, maybe you could come up with a more complete list of what qualifies as rice or not? You seem to be the authority on the subject.

I agree. All of those are rice.

rice... yum.. kind of hungry... i hate the whole concept of what is rice and not... if he wants a shark fin dolphin or any kind of fin go right ahead... he paid for his car and can install a hood scoop if he wanted... if you like it.. then cooll... whatever makes you happy...

i hate the word "rice". envious people refer to other people's work as rice. if something is ugly, so what, it's not going on your car.

i see the shark fin antenna as an additional spoiler. it does nothing for the car, but i think it looks good.

a lip spoiler that does not increase downforce = non functional
19 or 20 inch rims = decrease in performance

oh well, i will be the self proclaimed "rice king"

Agreed, 100%. It's amazing how some members can be so rude.

Lexus OEM spoiler and Lexus body kit too or after market parts only?

If so must the after market parts be of Japanese origin or influence?

I'm thinking about creating a what's rice guide to end all of these debates.

To me there is a big difference between Ugly and Rice... Anyhow, the shark fin does't fit into either of those categories.

I think it's a bit silly, like putting a DirecTV dish on a house that has cable, but if it makes you happy, that's all that counts.

The shark-fin looks awesome on GS and IS IMO. I don't understand why Lexus doesn't put it on their cars in the U.S. ( only on the 2007 LS )?

what about a house that has directv with a non working cable line?
but what a guess. my home does have cable and a sat dish(from the directv days )

everyone has non useful things here and there, but it is not necessary to label someone for being different.

Default To Each His Own...

I applaud EddieC for your creativity and enthusiasm in posting your mods on this board. We IS owners are proud owners and will share our automotive accomplishments and goals.

I do want to reiterate the fact that this is an enthusiasts' forum. We are extremely enthusiastic about our cars. We add 20" chomes, we add body kits, we drop our cars, we paint it racing colors, and we even add OEM shark fins!!! Keep it civil and enjoy the posts.

Thanks!
Phil
