I was surprised at the 1/4 times too but there are a few people on other boards that were running 13.6 and 13.7's stock. There are some simple formulas floating around to reverse back to hp from numbers and weight but I gotta find them.

Hey CaymanDive, I'm a diver too!

cdeslandes I can't picture it.. so from a stop get into manual mode when you're in 1st shift over to 2nd gear and launch in 2nd? Or shift to 2nd gear give it a little gas then shift down to 1st?... I thought you couldn't spin the wheels in any gear if vdim and trac was on?

Here's why I select 1st then 2nd gear before starting:

* selecting 1st puts the trans in 1st gear (logical...)
* then selecting second allows me to lift the foot a little IF wheelspin starts (usually above 4,000 rpms) and then the trans immediately switches to second gear. I then floor it for the rest of second all the way to redline. Then redline through all the gears after that.

Why no power braking: causes immediate wheelspin.

Is it the optimal way to launch: dunno. Does it work: I've sent 350Z drivers home crying for their mamas doing it this way!
Shifting early to 2nd is a good way to fall out of the powerband depending on when you start spinning. You'd do better to just pedal 1st and do a normal redline shift point.

I'll second that. July/August can't arrive soon enough for me to begin checking out what this car is really about. In the mean time, thanks for the input guys. Great thread.

I start with the selector on 2, but make sure the gearbox is actually on 1. That way I don't have to use the paddles to switch to 2nd when the time comes, since the car revs so fast in 1st.

If I get enough traction, I let the car hit redline and shift on its own. But if wheels start spinning, I lift the foot a little and the car goes to 2nd right away. The car has a good torque curve, and since in that situation I can't put full power to the ground in 1st (since I'm spinning) I'm better off going to 2nd early.

As for VDIM, it allows for some wheelspin, but then robs your engine of power. So if VDIM kicks in, I just let it upshift.,
