If the heat shield isn't actually sealed to prevent air from flowing around it, then it is just reducing radiant heat, not blocking hot air.

I believe Caymandive's dyno runs were done about a month apart in comparing the 2 intakes. I wouldn't go by that dyno test at all..Also, i believe it was 5 rwhp..

My Baseline dyno was done on 1/26/06 and was 257.76hp and 233.53tq
My LMS dyno was done on 2/16/06 and was 257.03hp and 238.91tq
My JOEZ dyno was done on 5/13/06 and was 262.99hp and 238.79tq

All of my dynos were done alike. I installed the part, reset the ECU, drove the car for a few hundred miles and put it on the dyno. I felt this was the best way to test for real world conditions and is setup exactly as it is when driving on the street. No intake swapping on the dyno, no ecu resets on the dyno etc. So yeah perhaps my car was broke in slightly during the time between dyno's, which could have accounted for some of the power increase, but definetly not all of it. The JoeZ pipe surely didn't cause a loss of power for me, it's not noisy and i'm clicking off 13.5 second runs at the drag strip with 80 degree weather with a full interior minus the spare tire and half tank of gas. The JoeZ pipe is a good bang for the buck that actually enhances the stock intake setup.

Here is my LMS intake vs Baseline dyno chart. This was my best run out of several as all the other runs were consistently less than baseline. When I finally added an extra fan to blow more directly onto the LMS intake this gave me my best run. No hp gain, but slight torque increase.
