Last year, house payment, taxes, pre-school daycare, home owner's and college fund for my kid were just over $7k/month (at least I am paying principal in there, 30 yr fixed at 5.7, whew!). I could be driving a 997 Carrera S if I lived in an apartment and was single. Accordingly, I make do with my paid off M5 and 323iT. What are you going to do? My whole extended family is in Nor Cal and I love it here. I feel like I am in college when I see what I have left until my next pay period. I do have the 401k going, stock purchase and all that so just cash poor.

indeed! I moved from florida this year to Norcal...man did that hurt. I gave up a 3 bed / 2 bath on the water for a crappy 70 year old house with a patch they call a yard And in ATL you have state income, none of that mess in florida heh....man...why did I move again?

Glad to see you put away so much into your 401k, however, keep in mind the max contribution to your 401k in 2006 is $15k.

The car payment alone? Not total cost to own, right?

Cuz being that I'm below 25, TCO is... significantly higher...

RocketGuy3 makes a great point... If you look at total cost to own (TCO), the number is going to be a bit bigger. For example, the Lexus raised my insurance rate $500 a year. Not a HUGE amount but it does have to be figured into the total overall cost

Bingo. I don't even pay attention to what percentage of my gross I'm putting in at this point. I just cap it at $15k (or whatever the max was for previous years) and call it a day. The rest goes into other investment accounts.

like one said before.. we can't do percentages since some may be on a 3 years plan while others on a 5 year.

If i went with a 5 year plan to payoff 30k with 6.24% it would be 8 k interst in the end. While on a 3 year plan it would be under 3k. Monthly payment would 640ish/915ish respectively. Now this was an easy decision.. i'm not going to loose 5k extra just by choosing the 5 year plan. Is everyone aware of how much interest eats you up since you're on the 5 year plan?

Last month my car took up a big portion of my monthly income...like all of it. BUT, the rest of the time I own it, it won't take up a bit.

Yes, it's CARS... The IS350 ~ $600 and the Benz claims the rest.

The E55 is a BEAST, a complete different car in its own league. I love that monster.

The IS350 is a very nice daily drive car and I picked it out of the G35 coupe, BMW 330i/335i, Audi A6 and the Acura TL. Cant BEAT the LEXUS's legendary reliability reputation.
