Question Ethanol gas

Just curious, since the government has taken action on this issue with low fuel.

I've noticed gas stations e.g. Sunoco and Wawa have been putting ethanol in their fuel. (about 10%)

so my question is has anyone noticed any issues in their cars lately.

I dun have 2is but my car and along with a couple of friends have been having some cold startup issues.

It takes more time now to startup our cars.

was wondering if you 2is owners out there are having the same effect if not worse.

usually the manual states what the highest % of ethanol it can run on. Even my 2000 prelude can do 20%

I've seen the stickers on the pumps, but fortunately my car fires up as easily as it always has.

I read that ethanol has less energy than the MTBE it replaces, and can cause a drop in mileage. Fortunately I haven't noticed that effect, either.

Almost all pumps have always had a certain amount of ethanol; usually around 5%. However, most cars are able to handle about 20% no problems at all.

Here in the US we get the lowest octane and worst gas in the entire world. They put soooo many additivies in the fuel here thats its not even funny.

Approx 3 years ago we shipped our volvo to Europe. It ran fine wasnt a fast car here in the US, straight 6 RWD. Once it arrived to europe I put in a full tank of gas ($100 US). Man I could instantly tell the difference!! Like my car came alive all of a sudden. I could not believe it. The car ran smoother, had much more power! So probably all these years filling up with gas here my car was probably saying, "stop filling me up with the POS US gas". Guess my car feels right at home now.

So yeah we get crappy gas here. I bet if you pump up with overseas gas in the IS350 you will be flyin'.

my last fillup netted the same mileage as I had with MTBE, ill have to get more mpg calculations as time goes by to see if it actually affects mileage

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't additives a good thing? Normally it's 87 w/o the additives and the octane boosters are the additives added to the 87 to make 93. Ethanol boosts the octane rating and decreases knock as I recall. Other additives are often "soaps" (ampiphatics) that keep the gunk out of your engine. It's unfortunate that people can't fill up their tanks without spilling all over the place because MTBE (Methyl tert-butyl ether) was a really awesome additive that was actually not detremental to the environment except when it leeched into the groundwater. It apparently tastes really bad.
