I just got pulled over for not having a front plate
#46
Speaking of Ohio, I've had cops pull a friend over for the license plate being too low on his car (attached it to the air dam of a different model).
I've gone without a front plate for years on a lot of my cars. I currently own an S2000 and cops' eyes generally are on my car and not my plate. I did get pulled over in a Firebird in a rinky-dink town once for not having it, because the guy didn't have anything else better to do.
I think the front plate law is bogus, because the traffic cameras in Toledo for example, catch the rear plate and they mail the plate holder a ticket. There's an affadavit attached that allows you to identify who was really driving the car if you weren't.
Some states are really picky about where you put the plate. I know it sucks to have one, but if the law requires it, and you run without it, you run that risk of getting pulled over for it.
I'm also with Ken. How do you know you weren't pulled over for the front license plate and then the cop said you were speeding, but that was his excuse to pull you over?
It's the officer's discretion on whether to give you a fine or a fix-it ticket where I live. If I got more than 2 fines (at 100 bucks a pop), you bet I'd have a plate on. Too expensive not too, especially if your money strapped but driving a new car (ie not independently wealthy).
