what are some recalls?
Have been reading some posts in regards to seatbelt and pedal recalls. What are the problems??? Are there other recalls besides those? Are recalls at no cost? Wtf? It's Lexus; can't belive they mess things like up like that. Thanks.

The gas pedal recall, which happened very early in the model year, affected only the all wheel drive model. The recall involved a modification of the pedal assembly to prevent the gas pedal from getting caught on the carpet.
The seatbelt recall, which affected a much greater number of cars, replaced both front seatbelt due to a possible failure in the retractor mechanism.
Recalls (from any manufacturer, not just Lexus) are done at no cost to the consumer.

It's only been a couple of recalls, and only the seatbelt recall affected the global 2nd Gen IS community. This is very troubling for Lexus, as their quality standard is slipping. You're still far off better than other autos out there; the Chrysler 300 had recalls for its brakes and tranny, Jeep Wrangler had recalls for its clutch assembly and tranny; and even Ford had to recall over 3.8 million trucks and SUVs due to cruise control problems.
And this is actually a good thing; Lexus caught the problems early before it affected anyone, including yourself. Some automakers will not ask for a recall if the amount of lawsuits from a few accidents are cheaper than doing a recall. Thank God Lexus doesn't do that.

I think the corvette has just been recalled for the roof might coming undone while driving.
You know, it might just be a spin on things, but a safety recall does not necessarily mean that something is broken. IIRC, Lexus said the seat belt has the potential to get caught up and therefore the driver might decide to not use it.
Since all recalls must be safety related, Lexus decided to not take a chance and went thru with the recall instead of some sort of fix or TSB. Apparently there is nothing wrong with the seatbelt, it works when you wear it, it wasn't subject to failure, etc. From what I read, if is got locked up for whatever reason (like a lot of seatbelt often do), it might be so difficult to unlock it that you may have to drive without using the seatbelt. Mine never did that. But Lexus played it safe and I doubt they performed the calculation. Finance, accounting, and legal department don't run all companies.
