Default and a pound of ground beef

oh..wait...I'm not at the butcher shop....

I was confused...when I was detailing the IS350 today, I removed the front license plate frame and bracket..to make sure every speck of dirt was removed....

I was shocked to find that the Lexus solution to attaching the front frame to the car is to drive a couple of course threaded screws right into the bumper...

GIVE ME A BREAK. I paid nearly $45K for that? How about something a bit more sophisticated?

My 04 S2000 had some very nice mounts that could be covered up with some simple plugs if the front plate wasn't required/wanted.

With the Lexus I have no choice but to leave the bracket and plate in place (which is required in WA..however I ran without it with the S2K).

I wish I knew about it before taking delivery last Feb..I would have insisted no front plate bracket...

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE THE CAR...and it looks damn sharp after spending 5 hours of polishing...waxing..and other detailing feats...but Lexus sure could take a lesson from Honda on the front plate bracket..

You don't HAVE to leave it on.

That is the solution nearly EVERY manufacturer uses. Why create some elaborate scheme for some weirdo who gets his jollies of taking the plate on and off. You either leave it off or on and a screw works just fine for that purpose.

Unfortunately, you really can't blame the dealership for doing this, especially if it is required by state law.

Too bad you were not able to catch it before delivery. Some dealerships won't put it on if you sign a waiver.

I think Lexus designs the cars with no plans for a front plate. I'm pretty sure that someone will figure out how to make a bracket for all Lexus models. For now, the best advice for people that don't want this to happen: (1) prevent the plates from being installed, or (2) don't buy the car with the plates already installed.

Well the front plate was just drilled into the front bumper because the car was designed to NOT have a front plate. you can blame your local po po for that.

Wrong! There are 2 dimples molded into the bumper just for that purpose.
