Default satellite radio

this might be a stupid question.. i did a search but did not get the answer. Does the IS 250 come XM radio ready? Meaning, i got a portable XM radio and wanted to know if i can hook up the sat ant and i'm ready to go, or do i need to run the wires and hook the system to my input (my I-pod is using that now).. how do i get the ant to go outside... ???

You would need to use the car kit that came with your sat radio to setup the sat-antenna on the outside of the car and run the wire through the sunroof or window. If your ipod is using your aux port, you might be able to purchase some sort of splitter to share it. The obvious alternative is to us the built-in wireless transmitter in your portable XM player to send the signal to the car (which you would tune-in to via FM Radio). Sound quality would be better through the aux-port but would probably be sufficiently good via FM modulation.

I use the AUX port for my Roady, and I'm pretty sure you can find a splitter to share the port with your iPod. I really did not want to spend $600 for XM radio, especially when the one I have is portable and does the same job.

As for the antenna, I have the antenna on the right rear corner of the roof. The wire can be hidden along the rear window edge, into the trunk, through the pass through, under the seat, and into the center console compartment. It's a very clean job.

Do you see the XM antenna?

Nice wheels. Literally. You just saved me some money and headache on the xm. One other question. If I have the XM receiver is there a way to hook it up to the nav/head unit and use it as an integrated unit? I have looked at the installation schematic and even if you go with the unit Lexus offers you still have the turtle (ant.) on the back.

Thanks Cone!!! I was wondering if it would be o.k. on the interior. By the way I'm an old AW member UID:1064 or thereabouts. Did not post very often. Nice 350. I don't have the guts to do the 350 in the winter up here.

I'll just do snow tires...my home is my office so if a nor'easter hits I'll stay inside.

so if you get the XM or Sirius sat. radio, you dont have to have the antenna outide the car? I would rather have it like cone, by the rear window inside. . .

I told the dealer to put the antenna inside.

Just in case it needs to be said, you won't get nav-screen integration if you use an off-the-shelf satellite kit like the portable XM radio syn1313 mentioned.

If you want nav-screen integration you'll need an integrated kit either from your dealer or from one of the suppliers that advertises here.

I've been an XM customer for almost four years now...I'll never own a car without it.
