Default IS350/SPORT / Hydroplaning

Ok today is probably the 3rd time I've driven my IS350 w/Sports package in
extremely heavy rains, I've hit pretty deep puddles on the highway and on the
small streets, and I seem to notice this car does not hydroplane at all.
My last 2002 bmw330cic was just as heavy as my current Is350 and it
hydroplaned plently, along with most other cars I have drvien throughout
the years. I guess these Dunlops must be very good in the rain

Don't discount the VDIM nannies, they are very effective.

Tires more than anything will determine how your car handles in the rain. I had Bridgestone Potenza RE92s on my Maxima and those tires were absolutely horrible in the rain. I have Michelin Pilot Sports on it now and they are sooo much better.

Haven't driven the Lexus in the rain yet.

I'm sure they are, But I dont see how they can have any effect on wether the
car hydroplanes or not, I would think that would have to do with how heavy the car
is, the tire treads ,and also, the condition/type of shocks..

The VDIM system can control wheel speed, which is also a factor in a hydroplane situation.

Well usually the front tires are the ones you feel hydroplane, because the steering
becomes light as you turn, but I dont think VDIM helps with that much since our cars are rear wheel drive, what do you all think? Anybody else notice this car doesnt hydroplane much?

Tires make a huge difference. The OE tires for the IS350 w/Sports Package aren't the best, the Dunlops, but far from the worst too.

Cheers,

my only complaint about the sport package 18" tires is the road noise...they are LOUD compared to other max & high performance tires I've run in the past (SP9000s, P-Zero Assymetricos, P-Zero Neros, S-03 Pole Position...all 18"/40-series)

Tony: I agree These Dunlops are very good in the rain. I have busted through some heavy rain in NC and here in VA, and they are very stable. look at those big channels down the middle of the tires. Noise is negligible. I had a set of Goodyear RSA's very noisy and got noisier as they wore. Then tried some bridgestone, that was a mistake. Yes you certainly do worse than the Dunlops.
I like 'em, they are wearing good too. we'll see if the noise increases
