Default Please Help Analyze This Disturbing Incident

Hello Everyone: I have had my 2006 Black IS 350 for six weeks and have put about 1500 miles on it. So far I have had a flawless experience with the car, until yesterday. I was driving 35-40 mph when I began to slow down for a line of cars at a stop light. When I was down to about 4-7 mph, just before I should have come to a complete stop, I felt resistance from the brake pedal as I depressed it. Somewhat alarmed, I pressed harder, and the resistance continued. Then, when I was within 5 yards of the nearest stopped vehicle, the car lurched forward about 5 feet even as I continued to depress the brake. Fortunately the brake then responded completely and I came to a halt.
I am not discounting user error, but i verified that the rubber all-weather mat was anchored to the floor hook and had not become bunched up under the pedal.s Then I thought maybe I was being lazy and my right foot somehow had remained in contact with the accelerator while I was braking. I am 99.9% sure this was not the case. As others have stated, the brakes are super-responsive. I am wondering if I somehow confused the car with the manner I was lightly applying the brake. I am going to take the car in for a diagnostic. Does this incident make any sense to anyone here? Thanks for reading the long post!

My guess is that you were probably catching the accelerator. I would definitely take it in for a diagnostic though as you can't be too careful with something of this nature.

I know you can't remember if the engine accellerated, but if it didn't, you didn't hit the gas. An idling engine would do what you said happened.

I assume you meant "an idling engine would NOT do what you said happened?" And it if the engines doesn't accelerate, how does the car struggle forward? Transmission at lower speeds? Unless the brakes were starting to fail quickly and then decided to take hold...very unlikely since you said you felt resistant to your continued braking. Very puzzling. Lurching forward 5 feet is troubling, that's a bit far.

He probably had it in sport mode and downshifted to first gear, and it probably lunged forward a bit, as our cars tend to do while in that mode at low speeds??
