I have a Gen1 or 2 IPOD - either way it's one of the first.
I got the cable from belkin and I plugged into AUX and IPOD.
Stereo setting jumps straight from AM to CD - does not detect any AUX cable I guess.
What am I missing? I hate hardware.

so you don't have a dock on that older ipod, right?
using the ear jack, first make sure you are getting sound out of that ear jack...by plugging in regular headphones. make sure you are using a good cable, some cables are defective or no good.
then you'll want to check the connections, often times connections are loose.
also i think even with the older ipods when the connection is lost, the music will pause so always ensure you are playing.
as for the car, keep pressing the aux button until you hear sound.
all else fails, time to upgrade to a better ipod...may i suggest the 1gb nano?

Right - no dock - only a firewire connection. I'm thinking the cable is not compatible backwards to Gen1 or 2. I never get the AUX setting to work. I've pressed the AUX button 20 times and the CD just keeps playing.
I love my IPOD and don't want to dump it. I've had it before anyone even heard of an IPOD. Guess I will have to get by with XM instead.
Frustrating to not have things be backwards compatible on basic issues such as cabling.

My guess is that it's the cable, not the iPod.

The Sik RamDin uses the iPod mini's line output via the dock connector. This is particularly helpful with the mini, as many mini owners have reported that their headphone jacks develop a loose, static-y connection over time. http://store.sik.com/merchant.mv?Scr...ry_Code=CABLES

That would explain it then..... I unplug to charge and update, but leave the cbale in all the time.
