Default Average Wait Time

I have been a "lurker" for the past few months. This is a great board!

Anyway...

I ordered an IS 350 SGM with lux package on 3/17/06 from Lexus of Jax and I am still waiting.

What is the average wait time for those that special ordered?

Thanks.

It ranges, but it usually takes about 3-4 months for a special order to come in.

Default Special Order

If you didn't get anything out of the ordinary then it is not really a special order, the car was "preferenced". Meaning the dealer asked for that particular model/color combo be placed in their allocation - so long as no one else is asking for it. That should only take a month or two. If you went with something "extra" like a no sunroof car, or Mark Levinson, then you are looking at 4 months.

I ordered the lux package with 18" wheels (LT), so you are right; it is a "preference" order. I was originally told 4-6 wks. Given Jax is a port city, I had my hopes up.

To see how happy you guys are makes the wait even more p-a-i-n-f-u-l.

I don't see too many around NOLA, so it could be worse.

It was 3 1/2 weeks for me. Not that bad compared to some of the cases I have heard.

I have seen some members' posts stating a "Temporary VIN" was given once the car hits the port. How does that work?

Temporary VIN? Don't know much about that but I heard that supposedly once cars hit port, if they arent special ordered then the cars are "up for grab" by the dealers. And this could be the reason for the temporary vin since they dont know whether or not they are going ro get the car on their own lot;.

It took less than 4 weeks for me. When I ordered mine, there was one already on its way to port of Jax. I guess I got lucked out.

Also, just be aware of the difference between "Special Order" and "Allocation Order."

Special Order is when you give specific details on how your car is to be made. This includes the car's colors, factory options, and port/dealer installed options. You order the car as specific as possible. This will take four months, as it takes time to send the paperwork, build the car from scratch, and deliver it from Japan to the U.S.

Allocation order is when they find your car that is already made, and may not be as specific as possible. For example, if you order a car with a specific color and packages, a dealer may find it with an upcoming allocation. The car may have other packages or options that you may not want, but the basics are there. This takes significantly less time as the car may already be at port.

Since this is a "preference" order, I guess I will call Lexus of Jax this week to see if my car was part of this month's allocation.

I have generally tried to avoid calling (called @ 6wks after order only to be told "we're still waiting).

As a side note...

Given the law of supply and demand, do you guys expect a significant price increase for the 2007s?

I doubt Lexus will increase the MSRP too much. It's typically about 3% increase a year.

However, it will be more difficult to haggle down the price. Cars will continue to fly off dealer lots. Supply and demand will affect this more than the MSRP.

I ordered mine on march 11 (see sig) and i got the call yesterday that mine was at port and going to arrive at the dealership in nashville, TN between June 24-28. So overall my special order took about 3 1/2 months . . . but its gonna be sooooo worth it

My salesman told me about temporary VIN once upon a time - basically once they receive it, the car has been buit and is on the boat. I guess it gets the final VIN at port, but not sure. Bottom line, once you get a VIN of any kind, car is finished production and on its way to you.
