WOW, it took me 15 minutes to get it running and may be another 45 minutes to make everything looks good and put it back together.

Sound quality is a top notch with CD sound.

how did you convert your songs on itunes to keep it at mpeg or mp3 because everytime i add songs to itunes it converts it to the aac format and it is horrible and loses a lot of quality from its cd counterpart. i just want to know how to change my songs from aac back to their original format for best sound quality. thanks.

Does vaistech support unicode? ie Chinese and Japanese ID3 tags?

Maybe I should go ask in the Vaistech forums.....but I thought I'd ask here first :P

I'm planning on purchasing this as well, however, I'm not comfortable at all with doing these modifications myself. Can anybody recommend any place in CA that would be able to install this for me?

Our IS 350 wasn't available with the NAV system. I guess none of the cars from Hawaii are but I sure like the Ipod intergration those with the NAV have available. Is it possible to have something like that installed in my car aftermarket. I'm not even interested in the NAV so to speak but the iPod/DVD features with the touch screen would be cool. Mahalo for the advice.

I thought there was a 99 playlist limit? If so, that would really suck! I could create a playlist per artist and would likely fit in that limit, but then I'd have every song from that artist within that playlist and wouldn't have a convenient way to play only songs from a particular album.

Is there an easy way to sort or navigate by "artist -> album -> songs", or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Yes, 99 is the limit. There is no concept of artist, album, song really. Think of it like a playlist. You can have 99 playlists and can see and manipulate the songs in side of the playlist. You can't sort by album, etc..

Since this thread came back to life I and I didn't see any recent or detailed pics of the interface I thought I'd post some for those folks considering purchasing this kit.

Yeah the 99 playlist limit is a bummer, but it is really nice...problem is this kit almost makes the nav hack mandatory.

thanks for the pictures. it does look nice, but man that 99 playlist limit is a deal breaker for me. I'd rather wait until either Vaistech updates their product or someone else comes up with something a little less crippling.

I'm 99% sure the 99 limit is a limitation of the car/nav unit not Vaistech

I think you're right, though there are possible work arounds. They could support more than 99 playlists/folders by updating or changing the data that they send to the head unit. They are afterall mimicking the data that would be read from a MP3 CD.

Actually I looked at the Lexus owner's manual, and it supports up to 8 levels of folders. It also says that it supports up to 192 folders or 255 files on one disc. So the 99 playlist/folder limit of the Vaistech is clearly a limitation of its own. And the fact that it supports an unlimited number of songs per playlist (999 that will be numbered correctly, songs 1000+ will wrap) clearly demonstrates that they've come up with tricks to work around the 255 file limit specified in the Lexus owner's manual. So there's no reason why they couldn't use the same tricks with folders as well.
