Default For folks who have had the seatbelt replacement done

I was cleaning the car yesterday and noticed the cap covering the bolt holding the seatbelt to the frame near the floor on the passenger side had fallen off.

The inside of the plastic cover looked like part of it had broken off.

I tried to get the cover to stay on but was unsuccessful.

I then looked at the driver's side cover and this had also fallen off and the interior looked similar.

My sense is these are fragile items that are damaged by the removal and should have been replaced as part of the campaign.

Have you folks seen this happen on your cars?

I am going back to the dealer tomorrow for the 5K service and will see what they have to say.

Get that checked. Nothing from the seatbelt compartment should be falling off. This may be a safety issue...

Sorry if I made it sound like a Safety Issue.

It is really a cosmetic issue as the plastic caps are simply visual covers for the boltheads.

Sometimes when the parts are spec'd for a campaign (recall) repair, they miss little details (like replacing these covers).

I am just checking in with folks if they are seeing the same thing I am.

The tech working on my car may just have been too rough with the things when removing them.

Anything having the word "seatbelt" in it is safety related and will be covered under warranty, even the so-called "cosmetic" issues like the seatbelt covers and such.

This isn't what is covered in the recall though - that's an issue with the seatbelts tensing up when they're not supposed to and then not resetting, from what I remember.

Your issue sounds like it should be covered regardless of the recall. Definitely take it in as soon as possible. While you're there, make sure to ask about the recall too!

EDIT: Oh wait, I think you went in for your recall and this happened after that. So far, I haven't had that problem. May have been a sloppy install during the recall...

How many of you actually know if your cars fell into the range of requiring the seatbelt work? Or just assumed it had been done because you asked for it. It is a very limited number that were produced in a couple of months last year. I posted the VINs of affected vehicles previously. Do a search if you care to know if yours required it.

Yup. The exact same problem happened to me when I was taking things out my backseats. I noticed a black plastic cover on the floor behind the driver's side seat so I looked at my other seatbelt assembly and noticed the same cover but it was attached on properly. All I did was pull the seatbelt outwards and twisted it sideways a bit. Then I inserted one side of the cover on first and then used some force to slip the other side back on. After you're done make sure that it's on properly be pulling the seatbelt outwards a few times to see that it's on tightly. Sorry if that seems confusing.

As for the part that "looks" broken... I'm not sure if we're thinking the same thing but I did notice a small part of an edge that looked white, as if something was twisted/broken off.

Here is the update.

The dealer ordered the parts and it will be a no charge fix.

The parts will take 6-8 weeks to arrive.

Regarding my history with the seat belt thing, my driver's side belt jammed in December.

I had it replaced (10 days with a loaner).

When I was at the dealer this spring for one of my many TPM visits, they mentioned my car was covered by the seat belt replacement campaign.

A few days after the replacement, I received the card in the mail from Lexus asking me to have the seat belt replacement performed.
