just came across this thread
its really helpful. im looking into a sound system and looking for any tips.
i read in a previous post and wanted to ask, how do you know if you have ML or not?
i bought the car without any knowledge of it. about half a year later, i started to read up on CL and got an up-to-date on my car. HAHAH
all these setups are freaking nice.

oh...one more thing...actually two. HAHA
do passangers complain about the bass being too loud or anything?
also, do i need to have a new head unit, or can i just get some subs and an amp? because i have the navi and like the way my dash looks. i dont want to get a head unit and ruin my dash. i've seen some good setups but just not my cup of tea...unless i have to get one. HAHAH
sorry, im a nub when it comes to audio stuff.
any info/tips would help.
thanks

Even with the amp that is included with the ML system, it would be too weak to adequately power a decent 10" sub such as a JL W3. If you want to enjoy the full potential of an aftermarket sub, you should buy an amp with at least 2channel. I am running an aftermarket nav system with a sub and two amps. One two channel for my sub and one four channel for the speakers and nav unit. The sound is awesome.

^ you can do PNP if you have someone make a custom PNP kit for you. 500 isnt too much. Its better to have a larger amp and not use 100% of it For a sub amp I would suggest the JL 500/1 Mono amp. They are in your backyard also I am sure the sub you are looking at is power hungry. You will damage/blow a sub by not running enough power to it. I think I am going to do the JL 1000/1 mono amp but I am going to do 2 subs. basically the same theory.
