depends on many different variables. i'm just like you, used to be a big audiophile but now i just want something with clean, somewhat loud bass. you should look into 4080 stealthbox enclosures. i'm running one jl 12"w6v2 right now with a jl 1000/1v2, which i think would provide exactly what you're looking for. i was running the 10"w7 before in another box, but like i said it depends on different variables, like what kind of enclosure and how many cubic feet the box is.. too small and it won't provide enough air causing you to lose SPL and almost definitely end up in you blowing your sub. i believe 4080 might even make a 10" stealthbox as well, but they do not make one with a mounting depth big enough for any w7 (i've asked). in my honest opinion, i'd run two 12"w6's over a w7 if i were going for great SQ and SPL. but to answer your question simply: the sound QUALITY of the 10w7 in the isx50 is pretty good DEPENDING on if you get a proper enclosure(above 1.3 cubic feet i believe.. but i could be wrong) and the amp.. but the LOUDNESS from a 10w7 is dependent upon the enclosure

all depends on how you like your bass... loud or subtle i had each 10 12 13 w7 in my car i liked the 10 the most! but now im running 3 8's w7's... the back seat wall is SEALED PRETTY GOOOD! so i had to remove my factory sub to get some air through... other than that you should be happy with any w7 setup!!

Thanks for the feedback,
Joeker, is the 1000w recommended for just 1 sub? or is it just overkill? As far as an enclosure, i'll be taking it to my local shop for them to custom build one and fit it in so I have no idea as to how the setup will be yet. I want to begin generating some ideas, and the first idea would be either 2 or 1 w7 in the trunk

DJkibbles,
What made you decide to move down to 8''s from 10''s

I was thinking of building a enclosure as DIY winter project. Any helpful forums/sites?

The people I knew sponsored by JL built ridiculous cars. Maybe his stereo shop gave him a 10% discount and called it a sponsorship.

Same here. I was thinking about trying to make two fiberglass enclosures, like the 4080's, but for my first venture into fiberglass I might be in over my head. I just don't want to go standard box either, though.
