Default swapping out the stock amp

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the stock amp (for non ML) is located in the trunk....

Has anyone tried swapping the stock amp with an aftermarket one? If this is possible, would you run into problems with the speakers being too weak to handle the extra juice?

Yes, the stock amp is located in the trunk... just take out the plastic panel on the floor of the trunk on the passenger side and you'll see it.

As for how much it pumps out or how much the speakers can handle... hmmm....

from what i understand the stock amp has active crossovers in it.. somehow you might have to add passive crossovers or use an amp with crossover adjustments.

I thought the amp also had digital connections to the head unit.

that would nix any chance you had on replacing it.

Jeez, why so complicated, Guess we won't be able to change the speakers and amp on the new IS's. Was thinking of changing the speakers but then I realized there's 13 of them.

Default stereo system

I am still knee deep in the middle of my install so far I have the rear mids and tweet replaced.....since the amp outputs are all crossed over I am using a summing device(Audio Control LC8) and am feeding that to a JL AUdio Cleensweep. I didn't have to cut any wires because Lexus uses Multiple Toyota harnesses so I used 2 of each...in and out to wire the system. thats as far as I have gotten because my amps are still being processed under Employee Accomodation.will post picks with progress later!!!!! SO an answer to your questio...no you cannot replace amp...need to interface after it!!!!!

it does 2 things...... first it allows you to use a factory head unit and add aftermarket amps/speakers. what is really neat is that it takes your factory radio signal and it equalizes the signal. there are numerous cars(like ours) that you can't change the head unit in and this allows you to do that. ANd Like I said before with our stereos you also need a summing device. oh and 2nd it gives you another Aux in and a master volume control

lc8 to sum signals and cleansweep to help flatten out the curve

well u can add 6.5" components and lose the mids but it will sound way better. i have a premium package and i first swapped out the speakers and it sounded much better. but later on i got more of an itch and i removed the front changer and installed an aftermarket dvd navi deck and removed stock amp and replaced with an aftermarket one. now it sound much better with alot of bass.i have everything installed already just not the custom dash for the deck yet will be getting it installed this sunday. friend on mines working on sanding and painting the dash i will post pics after sunday

What king of amp? Did you simply plug it into the current amp setup?
