^^^ yep if it's a local route, remember where the hiding spots are. also becareful of hills, cops wait at the bottom of them on the other side. service road on ramps too.
i think about less than half the cops in my area don't turn on their radar's because they know people have detectors. detectors can't save your @$$ from instant ons or helicopters lol
I'm pondering if i should upgrade to a V1 or STI. The Escort 85 in blue is nice too
I currently have an ooold cobra 6500 or something

I have the V1 and just sold it for $340, the thing is 5yrs old. You can't go wrong with the V1, everyone know it's good. Another good reason to get it is that it has exceptional resale value. The only reason why I sold it is because I wanted to get another V1 . It would have cost me $88 to upgrade my 5yrs old V1 to POP detection so I figured I'd sell it to get a brandnew one for actually less(a new one only goes for 400). Bought it new for 400, got 340 after five years, it doesn't get any better than that folks.

If you really want to know which radar detector is the best checkout this site and do a little reading the new Escort blows away the Valentine 1, but it's not cheap. But like I said above I have had my Silver Bulliet for about 3 years now and haven't gotten a single ticket :-)

Nothing beats the Valentine One in radar and lidar detection.

yes the v1 owns....but just be careful of instant-on radar which is highly deadly and if you are driving alone on a road you're pretty much asking for a ticket...the only protection really against instant-on radar is having a car in front of you get hit first and then a good radar detector will pick up that scatter and alert you to slow down
(Instant-on radar is when when the cop doesn't keep his radar on and keeps it on standby mode. Therefore, your radar detector will stay silent. When you are in range, he will turn the radar on real quick with a full blast, get your speed, and you're toast. Unless of course like I mentioned above you have another car in front of you get hit first and good detectors like the V1 can pick up scatter from miles away)
And to be honest, I'd say most of the time cops do not have their radar turned on.

I just got the V1 3 weeks ago because my old escort was so old it didn't pick up 1/4 of traps... (No tickets) and after a lot of evaluation and reading threads just like this one I decided that the "arrows" were a good concept - so what the he!!.
Now after 3 weeks.... I love it and the arrows. I can be annoying in business districts with many auto doors but the muted volume control makes it OK. I like that "mute" is not "mute"... When I muted my old escort because a HP was somewhere behind me... I needed to constantly look to see if the coast was clear. With the V1 I have the muted volume very low but if I listen for it I know. Just another cool V1 feature - as you can tell I am sold on the V1.
The other detector I was looking at was the escort 9500i... Loved the GPS idea - so if you really hate the noise of the V1 this is the one I would pick. For me I just keep the music a little louder and cruise on down the road.
