2IS HID Bulbs -- D2R or D2S??
#16
The D2S don't have the shield and are to be used with projector headlights like the 2006 IS250/350.
The IS250/350 OEM HID system uses D4S bulbs, which is basically a new type of bulb that does not have Mercury in it. Several companies make the D4S bulbs but they are very hard to find or just really expensive because it's relatively a new product.
Among the best companies you can buy these bulbs from are Catz (they have them all the way to 8,000K), BellOfHID, PIAA (makes a 5500K-IMO not worth the investment). www.xenonvalot.com sells them as well, but I'm not really all enthused about their product quality
Most of the other brands I just described above you can find through most Japan product importers like www.sigmaauto.com or others. If I were you, I would wait until someone like www.xenondepot.com would get them and order from that company .

this 5500K D4S has been out in Japan for months since the latest Toyotas equiped D4S as HID bulbs... the OEM HID bulb is around 4500K so this PIAA one is whiter for sure and since it is lower than 6000K it should provide more lights output then...

the xenonvalot bulb that jinetix used was a 5800K. supposedly it was a little brighter than stock but he did not notice a difference. they now have a 6000K bulb and claim that that will solve the problem (i emailed them). has anyone else tried that or any other HID upgrade bulb? I think its like $230 for the pair and I'm thinking about trying them out. My high beams/fogs are 7000K so I want to get as close to that as possible.
BTW, I remember reading on how some people said our stock HIDs may change color with time? Is it possible or is it the reflector in the housing that affects the color output? Will the reflector affect an aftermarket bulb, e.g. not change color?
