Does anyone think that with the success Lexus made out of sound proofing engine noise that they could have done better with the tire noise? Has anyone tried to reduce this noise? Insulation?

I have some left over dynamat from my last car that really, really needed it. I think a layer or two in the footwell and as far up the firewall as possible will help a good deal.

I think simply changing the tires would suffice...

So dynamat is really effective for tyre noise? Which type did you use? Thanks!

Dynamat is great for a lot of different noises. It will definitely help with the tire noise. I got a bulk pack of the dynamat extreme. It makes a very noticeable difference. It just takes a little elbow grease to install it. There are other dampeners such as brown bread, stinger roadkill, second skin, etc. All of them work well. When you make you decision on the brand don't just go by price per square feet. Some of these are very thin and it's the actual weight that helps reduce the noise/vibration/etc. I went with dynamat as it is very heavy and you don't have to put on more than one layer for most purposes.

Good thread. But I am a little wary of ripping up the carpet, removing seats center console and all, with the car still under warrentee. My actual complaint is just tire noise, and it seems to come mostly from the front. Anyone has any ideas on effiecent use of insulation such as Dynamat? Would doing just the front half of the floor and front footwell help?
