doctorttt is right, I've found that CD-RWs work just fine on the non-ML unit.

My CD-RW will work for a certain period of time and then it stops working all of a sudden, meaning it wont read the disc at all. I dont think it was meant to play CD-RWs.

All 6 of my slots are filled with CD-RWs, and have been for the seven months I've owned the car. I've never had so much as a skip or blip.

it may take longer for the drive to recognize a CD-RW than a CD-R. Blank medias are dirt cheap nowadays, there's really no big reason to use rewritable CD's.

Actually, I've switched exclusively to RW. I change my content enough, and no sense contributing to the landfills.

You may want to try a couple different brands. Bichon probably bought some better ones. Maybe he can post up the brand. It makes a difference. Generally disks made in Japan work better than those made in China and Taiwan. You have to look at the fine print because some Japanese companies have theirs made in other places.

I used Memorex CD-RW 24x....maybe I should lower my burning speed to like 8x.

I'm embarrassed to admit that the disks I've been using are just some cheapies branded "Office Depot" that I picked up on sale. They are rated at 12X, and I burn them at that speed.

I looked at the disks and packaging to see if there was any sign of who manufactured or their country of origin, but I couldn't find anything.

As for the person who is using Memorex; I tend to avoid that brand. I've never used their CD-RWs, but I find that I have to do time consuming full erases of their DVD+RW media every few burns or they start having playback problems (on my home theater, not my car)

I can't comment directly, but look at what CD's you are using. I remeber back in the day with CDR's where relatively new and I had an aftermarket headunit and if I bought the CD's that didn't have a solid top side (i.e., White top vs. the ones that look almost the same top and bottom) it wouldn't be able to read the CD's, but if I just bought ones with a solid top side they worked fine.....

CLIFF NOTES:
Try a few different brands and see if that helps.

it even says in the manual that it can play CD-R or RW with mp3 or WMA formats.
