Can you post pics of your car? Reading your signature it seems you have quite a few things on your car that no one has seen on a 2IS yet. TIA

Pretty good mileage. Although it makes me even happier I opted for the IS350... I've managed to get it up to a 30mpg average on this last tank. I'll trade 6mpg for the extra 100+ horsepower. Although I confess, I've probably only used about 100 of those on this last tank. It's taken a lot of self restraint to actually hit that number.

The biggest thing I notice with some drivers is that they are either on the gas or on the brakes. Coasting or looking further ahead to see a stop light and taking your foot off the accelerator does not compute.

There are some simple things you can do right off the bat. Beyond those, it takes a lot of feel for the car, and a lot of thinking ahead and paying attention (which everyone should be doing anyway).

- check your tires and make sure they're properly inflated.
- no hard acceleration. Accelerate easily and steadily up to cruising speed.
- keep a gap in front of you. Tailgating ends up with you always either on the brakes or the gas. Leave a 3 car gap and learn to anticipate what's going on in front of you so you can react accordingly without any harsh transitions. Keep everything smooth, be it throttle or brake.
- slow down. Seems obvious enough. My commute puts me in the sweet spot of about 50-70mph on average. Anything above 70 and you're going to start eating more gas. Faster = more revs + more air resistance = more fuel used.
- more "advanced" techniques include things like building up speed on downhills and coasting (or at least not accelerating) on uphills. Obviously only relevant if you happen to live in a hilly area.

Bottom line, it's all about momentum, especially with a car that isn't much of a lightweight. Any time you need to accelerate that mass, it uses fuel. You want to limit how often that mass transitions from a steady state (i.e. cruising)

Obviously, the type of driving you're doing is going to have a big impact. If your commute is 10 miles each way, and it's all stop lights, you're never going to get near the 30mpg I get on my 55 mile one-way commute on back roads at an average speed of about 50mph.

Here's the pic by the way. You'll just have to take my word that I have a 350

I took a trip to Tampa couple of months ago and also averaged 28 mpg doing 80mph. I couldn't believe it either. Everyday driving I average 25mpg 60% hwy.

to get near 30 you probably have to do pure highway with very minimal change in speed

The car I am quoting is my wife's IS250 RWD. My 99 gs400 had the list mods, but I reciently traded it for another little red car.
