Pretty good mileage. Although it makes me even happier I opted for the IS350... I've managed to get it up to a 30mpg average on this last tank. I'll trade 6mpg for the extra 100+ horsepower. Although I confess, I've probably only used about 100 of those on this last tank. It's taken a lot of self restraint to actually hit that number.

- check your tires and make sure they're properly inflated.
- no hard acceleration. Accelerate easily and steadily up to cruising speed.
- keep a gap in front of you. Tailgating ends up with you always either on the brakes or the gas. Leave a 3 car gap and learn to anticipate what's going on in front of you so you can react accordingly without any harsh transitions. Keep everything smooth, be it throttle or brake.
- slow down. Seems obvious enough. My commute puts me in the sweet spot of about 50-70mph on average. Anything above 70 and you're going to start eating more gas. Faster = more revs + more air resistance = more fuel used.
- more "advanced" techniques include things like building up speed on downhills and coasting (or at least not accelerating) on uphills. Obviously only relevant if you happen to live in a hilly area.
Bottom line, it's all about momentum, especially with a car that isn't much of a lightweight. Any time you need to accelerate that mass, it uses fuel. You want to limit how often that mass transitions from a steady state (i.e. cruising)
Obviously, the type of driving you're doing is going to have a big impact. If your commute is 10 miles each way, and it's all stop lights, you're never going to get near the 30mpg I get on my 55 mile one-way commute on back roads at an average speed of about 50mph.
Here's the pic by the way. You'll just have to take my word that I have a 350
