ok i read all the threads about clear coat on black .. pre 2001 and after 2001 etc.. but the conclusion is still ?

i used scratch x on my black 250 the other day to remove some scratches and all i can say is whatever came off on my meguair's hi tech foam applicator looked clear to me

there was a tiny bit of grey .. which looks like its dirt.. because im thinking if its single stage paint and color comes off on the applicator it should be very noticable.. not just a dash of light grey after 5-6 applications??

scratch x is very mild but still.. any amount of paint removal should be obvious on the applicator.. especially black..

any definitive word on this confusion???

someone in another post said their is350 black paint came off on applicator with scratch x?? can you post pictures of the applicator??

Get it if you can afford it! It won't do any protection to prevent rock chipping, but it aids more blinking effect 24-7.

Nothing definitive, but everything I've read here and elsewhere says that the 2IS black is a 2 stage finish with a clearcoat.

If you had single stage black paint, you'd definitely know it when polishing the vehicle because your pads would be black.
