^ You can return it back to stock and nobody will know the difference not even the techs. Unless you cracked the frame of the filter while removing it or something. Just be careful and go slow while taking it off.

if you're removing this filter, you might as well have bought a BMW cause you obviously didn't buy this car for the quality assurance part

That filter is there to help the enviroment not to make the car last any longer...Also, trust me
you'd have to tamper and modify many things before a lexus would drop down to the low
reliabilty level of a Bmw..

I just removed my charcoal filter (aka: secondary filter).. I think this vastly improves
air flow, because as soon as i drove it, it ran a little rough for about 5 mins, then cleared up.
I'm assuming the ecu needed a few mins to learn the new higher airflow. I Don't really
notice a power increase, because even if it did gain any power, it'd only be an amount
that's not really noticable, I'm guessing (1-5HP)..

Your assessment of increased air flow is based upon the engine running like crap after you made the change?

Yes, it's called deductive reasoning... Common sense says taking that filter out
will not cause more air restriction, so you just rule that out, and there's only 1 reason left.
(MORE AIR FLOW).

Wow. I don't think I have read a thread with more speculation than this one.

1. I seems that the Charcoal filter is for emission purposes.

2. Nobody knows if removing this produces power (Need dyno)

3. Nobody knows if removing this improves throttle response

4. Nobody know if removing this does anything helpful at all.

The idea is we know nothing about this. Data is needed to determine what and how it affects the cars performance, etc.

So much of the "tuning/modding" mindset is built around baseless speculation and pulling HP numbers out of a magic hat. Definitely not my thing, but to each their own.

They are dielsels and hydrocarbon emission isn't an issue because there are so many already. Hence why dielsels aren't used as much in the US, they are still much dirtier.

I think they use better diesel fuel in Europe. More refined, less sulfur, or something or other.

While results may a different with different manufactures, the topic of removing the 2nd charcoal filter from the intake lid has come up many times on the BMW forums. Just like here, some swear removing it makes a difference and others don't believe it does anything at all. I haven't really been too interested in those topics before but maybe they do have dyno before and after results somewhere in one of those posts.

Hey, if that's your idea of deductive reasoning, then go for it pal. If I do something to my car that makes it run like hell, and then when everything stabilizes I can't discern any positives from the change, I call that a net NEGATIVE change.
