This might be a stupid question, but I was just curious as to where most of the 2IS's are coming from. Are they mostly being built in Japan or here in the States?
The reason I ask is because I've been waiting on my 250 Crystal White/Beige and it supposedly arrived at the port today so, I gather that it's from overseas.
All Lexus IS' are built and imported from Japan from either the Tahara or Kyushu plants. They will end up on US shores at either the Toyota ports at Long Beach, Portland, Newark or Jacksonville.
All Lexus vehicles are Japan-built. You can confirm this by reading sticker on the dealership's car lot. They are required by law to disclose the source of the parts and the place of assembly.
I think ALL Lexus cars/suvs are made in Japan. I know Toyota makes a few cars here but I don't think Lexus does.
The only Lexus model built outside of Japan is here in North America. The RX350 is manufactured at TMMC in Cambridge, Ontario (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada - www.tmmc.ca). The RX350 is also built at the Toyota Kyushu plant where the RX400h is made exclusively.
You can also tell that our cars are made in Japan by the VIN. Our VINs start with "JT" which indicates a Japanese made Toyota. American made Toyotas start with "1T".
