Default TRAC off switch

Perhaps I'm ignorant, but it seems that there has been a lot of complaints in regards to the inability to disable the traction control on the IS350. I have read of it in almost every review, and was told such by the dealer. For the past few days I've been using the brake pedal trick to disable it. And then this evening, I'm sitting in my car, waiting for a friend, and notice a button on my dash, below the steering wheel labeled 'TRAC off'. sure enough, I press it and the same skid icon appears on the dash.

What's the deal with this? does it truly disengage the traction control?

also, this one I KNOW is my ignorance, but whats the ECT switch with 'pwr' and 'snow'?

Yes that does disable the trac, but after like 25 mph it turns back on automatically.

But say I pull up to an intersection next to a cocky little bastard in a pimped out pocket rocked.

i can still press the button and get a little more acceleration from the line yes?

Sure that will work but remember VDIM will kick in and help prevent it from really breaking loose, and probably cut throttle back so you will still loose power.

And the brake pedal trick disengages the VDIM as well?

That's the only way to to completely shut off VDIM. I haven't heard of anybody that has been able to retrofit a switch.

ps. your car looks absolutely amazing. It's so nice having a new car project with endless possibilities. My last car was at the absolute limit and was getting boring.

I played around with the ect and pwr switch today. I put the display where i could see what gear it was in. Ran it and accelerated at different speeds and watched it dowh shift . When in pwr mode it down shifted to a lower gear than it does in ect mode to give you that extra acceleration. I thought it would just let you rev out longer before shifting while in full automatic but found out differently.

ECT isn't a mode, it just stands for electronically controlled transmission. The switch allows you to turn power and snow modes on and off.

haha...that's what i've been wondering. i suppose after a while i'll get pretty quick at it. or someone will find a way to wire it in to an acc switch. for now i feel like i'm playing a video game, and need to put in the code to beat the level or something.
