Default Have I killed my car battery?

I haven't used my car in a week, and when I tried to start it this morning nothing. At first I though my remote is dead. But then I notice my trunk wasn't closed properly. What I have learned is that even if there is only a small crack opening of the trunk, the trunk light is still on. Not like my last car. Oh well. I installed my digital battery charger before leaving for work this morning. What I want to know is have I reduced my car battery's capacity? When it will be -25 Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit) this winter, will I have problems starting the engine? If so, Ill bring it in to the dealer to have it changed.

Also, can't wait to get back home to see if all my settings for the radio, gps, phone, seat are erased.

Anytime a battery is drained dead it will never provide the same electrical current potential under load as before, even if the voltage shows its fine.

However, it will probably work just fine and you will not have any problems. I have seen many times when dealers run the little car starters out to new cars and crank them when the batteries have gone dead.

I am sure after a full charge it would be fine.

You should be fine. The battery won't be what it was before discharging it fully but it won't be that far from it either.

Your IS350 a 2007? How many kilometers?

The battery is a warranty item. But, as it is near to new, it should recharge and maintain the charge.

I find it best to turn off all accessories, radio, A/C, auto lamps and other power draining devices prior to exiting the vehicle. It's a good habit.

I have an 06.

As soon as I got home I verified all of my personnal settings and behold there are intact! Woohoo! It must be stored in some ROM memory because my batttery was not even lighting the inside led's. Well I'll keep an eye on it to see if it keeps it charge before winter. Don't want to get caught in middle of nowhere in winter with a dead battery.

Thanks for the reply's.

Yes, there is "damage" to the car battery if it's entirely drained for an extended period of time unless it's a deep-cycle battery.

No, the "damage" isn't enough to cause any problems in the future for the nominal life of the battery.

Cheers,
Kermee
