Default Thoughts on this price for used IS250AWD?

Looking at purchasing a 2006 IS250AWD with Navigation and Luxury package with around 9000 miles on it from a dealership for $34500. Just wondering what people think about this price. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not a bad price. See if you can check the door for the manufacturing date just out of curiousity.

Optimal would be 33k.

I'm thinking the same. Same car new MSRP is $39630, invoice is $34690 so I'm thinking I would have to pay between $2500 and $4000 more to get one new.

Seems reasonable--I assumed you could get $2,500 off MSRP for a brand new car and then estimated .20 per mile for depreciation--another $1,800, or $4,300 off of a MSRP of 39,630, which would put you at $35,330. Since the car is about to change over to a new model year, you should expect a bit more, so again the $34,500 seems fair. You could ask for another $500 off, and see if they go for it.

If this were an American car, I would suspect that the discount would have to be a lot steeper.

Offer them 30 and see what they come back with. I mean if your credit is good and you are preapproved for a certain amount ( like a loan check ) you might even be able to get it under 30. They want to sell you the car more than you want to buy it, so just haggle. A car is always worth less than it was the day before.

I'll sell you mine. Buyout on my lease is around $31K but I don't have the luxury package on mine. But seriously, everyone who has responded so far has good ideas. Somewhere between $30K-$33K sounds about right.

Cheers,
Kermee

You don't think offering them something near $30,000 is too unreasonably low? I have little experience in the negotiating arena, but I would think that a $4500 difference between offers may make things more difficult on me during the negotiating process.

Agreed--other than the fact that $30 k is a nice round number, you need some basis to support that offer.

One other suggestion, ask another Lexus dealer what the GALVS value is for a used IS with the equipment noted. Here in the northeast, dealers use GALVs to tell you the wholesale (auction) price which they use to set the trade in value of a car. Once you find that out, then decide what you believe to be a fair profit for the dealer. You can also call the lending department at your local bank and ask them to provide you with a trade in and resale value.

But going in saying you want $30k without any basis to support your position is going to make you look naive.
