Well, that's a good point, except ..... If you're like me and use cruise a LOT, you often need to speed up or slow down to get past someone or whatever, and then you want to go back to your set speed. Since you don't always remember if you had to use the brakes after that last maneuver, it's handy to glance down and see if the "set" light is on. That way, you know you'll continue on at the set speed when you hit "resume" or just get off the gas, as the case may be.

With no "set" light, though, I don't know if I'm going to coast down to 15mph below the speed limt before I realize it, or whether I'll punch the stalk up (to resume) only to realize it was already set and I've just added to my set speed. Sheesh!
