Default Dealer is dealing

Just got home from a visit to the dealer in Atlanta. WIthout a strong commitment on my part they are willing to sell me a is350 luxury package with nav and ML and spoiler for $42,200. That is about $2600 or MSRP. I was really planning on waiting for the 2007 but I don't think I could get the same deal on one. The VDIM on/off switch is not worth that to me at all. I seriously doubt I would ever even turn it off anyway. Shark fin?? Would I really be missing anything there??

What would you do? Take the deal or wait for the 07 and take my chances on getting the same deal?

$2600 off sticker doesn't sounds like anything special to me, on a $42.2K car. I got $1500 off + $1650 off the chrome wheels, and my car stickered at $31K. If there's something new on the 2007 that you want, then I'd wait. If nothing else, that might cause the dealer to make you an even better deal on the 2006 that you're looking at. Play them for all they're worth.

I don't know how the supply/demand is in your area but if I were you, I'd call him up and say we'd have a deal at $3200 off MSRP. If he came back with anything $3k+, then call it good.

First and only offer from my dealer was 3500 off a premium pack car and I took it. I'd press for 3200-3500 and see what happens.

you might be the only one talking, my friend.

I could see that when the new '07's come on the lot though.

I got an offer without even telling them I was looking at a car for 5% over invoice. Id say offer something around $1000 over invoice and see what they say. If its on their lot they probably will take it.

Thanks for the input. Like I said, the $2,600 off was without any real serious talks. Based on these replies, I plan to go back in Friday with an offer of $3500 off and hope to settle at $3,000. Based on what I have read from other post, I can live with that deal. I also don't think I could get the same on an 07 until late Jan or Feb of 07. I don't think I could wait that long either

Right, and be sure to make a big stink if the espresso in the showroom isn't hot enough, or if the red carpet is a bit frayed.

You can't expect dealers to provide world class service on razor thin margins.

End of the month does seem to make a difference. We got ours at the end of June for $39,500 with the sticker being $43,588. Sales manager said he was only doing it because of allocations.

If thats 42,200 with tax than that would be a great deal. otherwise that deal is only *okay*. I have the exact same car for about 44k otd with a spoiler, so you make the decision if thats a good deal or not.

"Good deal" is a matter of personal opinion.

If you feel the features/benefits of the car outweigh the price of car, then yes.

If you feel the price outweighs the features/benefits of the car, then no.

You are going to get many replies some saying yes, others saying no. Then the usual argument of what a really good deal is, followed by where to get a better deal, lastly by the debate of shopping locally or nationwide. There's so many variables when debating the selling price of a car.

Only you can decide. Good luck!
