Funny thing my Valentine 1 is set off by my nav system on the 350. It gives a laser reading if it gets too close to the screen. Anyone with a V1 notice this? Or another radar detector. I have to also add that the v1 is amazing hands down.

mines located near the navi and it's perfectly fine, saved me from two possible tickets so far

try holding it directly at the nav screen. Mine doesnt go off when its attatched to the windshield but when i brought it down one time the nav triggered a laser warning. Im intrigued by this and a little concerned that i might have a faulty v1...

My v1 is mounted right above the rear view mirror closest to me. the nav never sets it off. i suggest hardwiring it and tucking away the wire. people always think its custom installed. very clean looking.

I like my V1, but they are notorious for falsing on laser. Lots of vehicles with LED brake lights will set them off as well. I'm tempted to just turn of the laser function, especially since laser detection doesn't really help prevent tickets under most situations.

It's not just the V1. Others have noted the same thing with the passport 8500. Obviously there's a lack of shielding somewhere in the nav/dvd/rear view setup.

remove your laser away from your nav screen. mount it in the windshield like it supposed to be and go about your daily business. no need to create problems, this is an easy one to avoid. NOTHING is wrong with your v1. It's been acting this way for 10+ years running.

My V1 is also set off by my GX Nav screen when pointing the unit at the screen. It is working as normal.

Well not exactly. The V1 will false alot more on other radar than laser. LED brake lights will set them off but only up close. You are free to turn off your laser function but in my book that will be huge mistake. But if you honestly believe the police will beat you with a laser, you're right go ahead and shut it off. I leave mine on and I beat the police with laser. More more more often than not. I have the proof....years of it. You said "especially since laser detection doesn't really help prevent tickets under most situations" so have you been caught by laser?

My nav screen has never set off my V1 laser alert. If you point the V1 at a light-emitting device like and LED or LCD guess what...IT GOES OFF! LED = Light Emitting Diode, and guess what laser is....a form of light. Any detector (that's worth a damn) that has laser detection capabilities will be set off by LED brake lights or laser-based cruise control systems from oncoming vehicles. Nature of the beast.

I agree with the above. We have a nav system in one vehicle (Eclipse AVN-5500) and if you put the detector right in front of the screen, it'll go off. Noticed it one day when I was removing it from the windshield and it was still plugged in.

Certain GM LED tails will set it off, but you have to be like 5 feet from the rear bumper of the car in front of you, nad only in a specific area.

Sure, it falses once in awhile, but with navigational arrows and a bogey counter, it's pretty easy to see if it's a false or not.

The most annoying thing was I was being followed by a Cadillac XLR with it's radar cruise enabled. It was constantly setting it off, and once in awhile it would detect another source comming from it, which would throw off the mute.

Had the same problem with my Escort 8500 x50, moved it a little higher on the wind shield and the false alarms stopped.

I've had my V1 for nine months now and it has probably saved me countless times against police radar. However, a few weeks ago I got zapped with laser on the highway by a patrol car camping out on the overpass of a highway and was pulled over and issued a ticket. There wasn't anything I could do about it since it was instant-on.

In Kansas, the roads are long and straight and when the police use traffic laser, they are using it well beyond the "approved" range and they have a tendency to take multiple readings. I have been the first car out ahead and speeding and get hit with laser and I can see the motorcycle cop probably half-mile to little more than 1/4 mile away. As I approach and slow down, I probably get one or two more hits.

Or the situation is you can see the cops before they see you so waiting for you to come within range and you can slow down long before you come within range of the laser. Done that before several times.

And I'm also getting laser reflections when the police target other vehicles ahead of me and around me. I get a laser alert, brake hard, then I get the laser aimed at me. To date, I have received one laser ticket and I've beat laser nearly 100 times. Beat means you were speeding and you didn't get a ticket. Plenty of times we pass laser in traffic going under the speed limit or talking on the phone at the speed limit, get checked....that's not beating.

I realize I have an advantage that I can see the police at long distances and all they care is that they catch the inattentive and in most areas of the country, hills and curves and concealment is most common so laser, just like instant-on radar can and will zap you. While I have outbraked instant-on radar before, I can't say the same for laser.

When I got my laser ticket, it was dead-on accurate with the speed, but I noticed the range was written in. I felt helpless because the cops was hiding his motorcycle behind a wall at the entrance to a neighborhood and I was changing lanes passing traffic not paying attention. I felt bad because I should have seen him had I been paying attention and probably would have beat the laser....again.

I totally realize that all radar detectors will false, but I haven't had one that falsed on laser as much as the V1. My previous detector (Passport 8500) never falsed on laser. In fact, the laser warning went off so rarely that it always surprised the hell out of me when it did go off, and it was always a cop. There was only one time in 4 years that I was hit by laser when I was speeding, and I did get a ticket for it. That is why I said that laser detection hasn't benefited me. Now that I have the V1 falsing on laser so frequently, I pretty much just ignore it.
