I haven't had much time to mess with the Nav system since I've only my IS for about 2 weeks, but last night I was lost and the nav saved my *** to get home. Today I decided to play with it a bit more, but I activated "Heading Up Mode" which just seems like it causes the map to move with you... does anyone know how to turn this off? I tried saying 'cancel heading up mode' but it would just 'cancel voice recognition mode' .
Thanks in advance if anyone can shed light on this.

Heading up mode means that the arrow will always point upwards, in the direction you are heading. If you want it back into the North Up mode, just push the compass picture in the top left corner on the map screen. Alternatively I think the voice command is compass mode or something like that.

in the gps world, it is commonly called track-up mode (where up on the screen is always the direction you are going) and north-up mode (where up on the screen is always north).
i prefer track-up mode because when you look at the screen as you look at all the reference points around you including including intersection and poi's, left is left, right is right, etc. if i have occasion to use a paper map, i do the same. unfortunately a lot of people do not and can most effectively use a map when north is pointed up. they are accustomed to doing the rotation in their head and that's the only way they can use it. unless you are communicating with someone else also trying to navigate with their own map, i don't see any real advantages to using north-up. if you have a destination on the map and you make a bunch of turns along the route, i guess the destination stays in one place and if you use the verbal directions it doesn't matter.

I have my nav screen divided into two parts. One set at 100 meters and one set at 1000 meter, so I get an overview picture, and one of the local area. The one in local area is in head up mode.
