??!?? Is this a common problem among owners?
I believe it is common. A lot of users (at least on this forum) self-inflict damage to their vehicles and expect Lexus to repair or replace under warranty (scratches, B-pillar tint damage, etc). I'm glad they don't, ultimately the user has to take responsibility.

While it might be self inflicted, a quality mirror should not be so easily scratched. So even if the user put them there, it doesn't mean it's not Lexus' problem.

Mine have the brown tint and they are fine (even using MF )

Just wondering if those who have issues have the blue tint and whether the blue's were on the earlier cars?

Not so fast on the self-inflicted theory.

I noticed fine scratches on the mirrors after washing my IS too--this is the first car that I have ever had this happen--all six cars that I own get washed the same way--the others have scratch free mirrors. Hearing it from others makes me wonder if the mirrors on the Lexus are made differently, e.g. no scratch resistant coating?

Duh. I'll bet you anything, that if you NEVER touch them, they WON"T scratch. So obviosuly they ARE self inflicted.

Mine had scratches when i picked it up at the dealer. I assumed it was just dirty.... well...I gues not.... the mirrors must be made of plastic. Glass is incredibly hard; no towel will scratch it.
my guess is that Pep Boys is the OEM for the Lexus IS mirrors

I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

Ok if they make something that scratches when touched, they are obviously defective, even if it is self inflicted. It's like you buy a house and the doors are all good but if you slam it it falls off. But as long as you don't touch it, it's ok.....

Well freakin great. I want a car that I can touch!!! Duh.

Whatever--if it makes you feel better--my point has been made. By the way, it's obvious you don't know how to spell.

I guess you don't know the difference between a typo and spelling error. You can add this one you your vocabulary... transpose.

At least I know how to wash a car without scratching it. haha.

My left side mirror was heavily scratched when I picked up the car from the dealer. I brought it back and they replaced the lens and classified the damaged lens as "lot damage". Crossing my fingers that the new lens doesn't scratch up again. The scratched mirror was the worst at night...all the lights behind you had a halo effect that made it difficult to see.

Update: Lexus NA called my dealer and agreed to replace under warranty.

This shows me that Lexus acknowledge there is something not quite right with the mirrors, but is waiting for individual customers to call them with problems and ask for a replacement, rather than issuing a mass recall.

doesnt really mean anything, the dealer gets reimbursed labor and parts for warranty they dont have any real reason to deny you, maybe they want some more work to keep the techs busy and keep you happy

do these mirrors have some anti glare coating thats maybe causing the scratches or is it the actual glass itself

Default Mine is damaged as well....

Mine was damaged from the beginning as well.... You can really see it at night when you have headlights shinning into the mirror, then it looks really bad. I thought maybe I had done something to damage it, but after reading this thread, maybe I didn't.....
