You aren't the first to tell me that. A buddy of mine with an EVO has them and took it for a long run at skyline drive and side they were ok, but sidewalls are too soft.

After reading that Car & Driver article i'm stuck between the Michelin PS2's and the Goodyears. Only thing I dislike about the goodyears is the weight is 1lb more than the stockers in the front. The Michelins are lighter both front and back compared to the stock dunlops.

You really can't go wrong with either tire. The PS2's standing in that test was hurt by the price. Just gotta decide if they're worth the extra dough or not.

Loved the GS-D3 on my Audi S4; quiet, good ride, decent tread life. The sidewall was definitely softer than the Bridgestone S03 PP that preceded them, but the very minor drop in handling was well worth it for me.

Default toyo

does toyo make an all-season tire that fits the 18" is350? the toyo prices seem pretty mid-range on most of the tires they make. just want to make sure im not missing anything

I'm going to be buying winter tires, so I think I'll be able to get another dry season out of my Dunlops. This means I'll have to buy new tires in the Spring of 2008... A little early to be thinking about it, but the Michelin PS2s are tempting.

Admin-
How about making this thread, or something like it a sticky. Even if we have different priorities, I'm sure a lot of people are thinking about replacement tires. It would be nice to gather the opinions in one place.

Question

Just out of curiosity has anyone considered putting a wider tire on the OEM rims? I fear my wife will curb rash the rear wheels someday soon and was thinking that maybe 295/35-18s might fit.

I think it would look good from the back having some wider rubber showing.

Any thoughts on this?

The rear tires already look a little "poofy" on the stock wheels. The 295/35's would look terrible if they fit at all. They would also be really tall unless you went with a 30 series.

You would probably need at least 10.5" wheel for a 295. The 255's in back on the 8.5" does have a decent amount of curb protection. I wouldn't go any larger than 255's on the stock rear wheels. Most manufacturers recommend a 9" wheels for 255's anyway.

One additional thought to keep in mind (that many people don't take into consideration): try to keep the front to rear stagger (225 and 255mm), in terms of width, in mind when choosing tire sizes. Many people are increasing the stagger which can and does have certain negative consequences.

Very valid point and one that I had not thought of. I just came up with that size after playing around on Discount Tires website and that seemed to have the closest overall height and circumference to the 255-40s. They have a nifty calculator there that can be useful if you do ever change the wheels or tires to a different size. See http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos if you're interested

Good deal. If anything you'll want to reduce the stagger (wider tires up front) to reduce understeer and help with braking distances.

You might consider going with 245/35's or even 235/40's up front to get a little more curb protection.

Anyone had any luck with Sumitomo?
I've heard decent reviews and the price looks great!

This is a pretty old thread. Did you try a search? I gave more detailed info in another thread; basically they are ok, for the money. They handle pretty well, but are loud and tramline more and more as the tire wears.

I would try the t1r over these for a cheaper tire.
