So, I guess you like constantly turning normal cruise on and off then. I just set mine for max, and either follow the flow or set the pace.

Roads curving to the right can make oncoming cars (and trees) appear to the cruise to be in front of you, and it reacts accordingly.
Never had that happen on mine, and I regularly drive the twisties out to the coast (2 lane with steel and concrete dividers). I've heard it on other manufacturers, guess Lexus must have worked out the bugs.

Ditto. I've specifically been watching for how the car handles curves when cars are apparently 'in the way' for a brief moment, and there is surprisingly no reaction from the active cruise. Thus far, no other object besides the vehicle in front of me has caused it to react (though they specify that you not use it on roads with consistent curves).

For me, braking is more abrupt than I'd like (understandable), but acceleration remains smooth.

Actually, I did this the other day, except I was attempting to avoid a potential red light ticket. With nobody behind me, I ended up hitting the brakes harder than usual , and was caught off gaurd by the tensioners locking me in with an effect that I'll say sounded nicer than what it was simply doing. It does catch you off gaurd, but I like the feature, as its pretty interesting.
