Default Oil change at 1000 mile?

Or is it okay to wait until 5000? I've heard that an oil change is good after break-in.

Thanks.

I did mine at 3,000 and the dealership looked at me like I was crazy. They told me to wait until 5K but I had them do it anyways...

Default It isn't necessary until 5,000 but it won't hurt your

precious baby either. Some folks just feel better when they have fresh oil I guess. In the old days engines came with special break-in oil and a special filter that was changed at about a thousand miles. Those days are long gone. 5 W 30 and the proper Lexus filter and your set. The factory pays for the 5,000 mile service so you can save your money until 10,000 miles rolls around...

Rockville is correct. Those old days are gone. I still kinda like the thought of that NEW oil coursing through the engine and do changes at every 3000 or six months. Maybe dumb but I feel better.

I know some fanatical Corvette owners who have driven their brand new Vettes home from the dealer and changed out the oil. Huh? Gotta get that old bad oil OUT.

The only time you have to worry about doing a change too soon is if they add something to the oil at the factory to facilitate break-in.

My g/f's TSX had it and you were supposed to leave the original oil in for 10K miles.

AFAIK, we don't have any break-in additives so we should be OK changing it out sooner. I plan on having mine done at 4K and will do it between 4-5K miles afterwards depending on a blackstone analysis.

It was suggested that I do my oil change at 3500. It actually makes sense here in Arizona because of the heat. I think you have to factor in other variables when you're talking oil changes and maintenance. A lot of times, the climate will play a big part in your vehicle maintenance.

I vote for 5k. Also, it was discussed not too long ago here:

I had the dealer do mine at 500 miles and then i did it again at 3K myself with Amsoil. My car sees alot of hard city driving so i'm constantly worried about oil dilution from fuel.
