So is ILSAC GF-4 standard(non-synthetic) oil? If so, why would you deviate from the manufacturers recommendation.

ILSAC GF-4 is a performance standard not an oil specification. All synthetics for gasoline engines meet or exceed ILSAC GF-4 requirements. The manufacturer is not specifying conventional oil, they're just saying the oil (regardless of type) needs to meet or exceed the performance requirements set forth in the ILSAC GF-4 standard.

If I was using Amsoil, and was just 1 qt low, then I would probably just continue driving until I could top it off with more Amsoil.

If I were you guys (loyal synth users), I'd just keep a spare quart in the trunk. I'm very **** about maintenance, so I regularly check oil level and air pressure. As a result, If I'm ever a quart off - there's something seriously wrong with the engine . . .

I could never get Amsoil here in Mexico (importing it is out of the question due to legalities and high bribes). I found something better with the 0W30 German Castrol here and have been very happy with it.
