Default Michelin PS2 review on IS350

Not sure if this is more appropriate in the tire and wheel forum but this review is IS specific so....

Finally put on my Volk Progressive Spoke 18" wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 2's in 235/40/18 and 265/40/18. They are slightly larger (1.2%) in overall diameter and 10mm wider front and rear.

First impressions:
1. The PS2's are definitely more communicative. You can feel the road through the steering wheel noticeably better
2. Overall road noise is about the same if not slightly less. The 'boominess' over rough pavement coming from the front tires is definitely less though, which is very welcome. I still plan on dynamatting the front footwells. Like the Dunlops, I can't hear any road noise from the rears.
3. The 'choppy' ride is still there but quicker and less severe than before. I don't know if that's due to the slightly taller sidewall or not but this is welcome also.

That's about it for now. I still haven't been able to take an on-ramp at speed yet but hope to soon to see if the 'squirreliness' of the original Dunlops is gone or not. I think 225's up front is definitely not wide enough for such a heavy car.

Overall: they were spendy but they definitely seem to be worth it so far (I had them on my previous car also.)

Hope this helps someone.

How about tramlining? The Dunflops are terrible in this respect.

I remembered that just after I shut down last night.

The PS2's definitely tramline less than the dunlops. Out of all the tires I've used in the past in terms of tramlining from least to worst in the max performance category:
1. Goodyear GS-D3's (probably due to the softer sidewalls)
2. Michelin Pilot Sport (first model)
3. Tie: Bridgestone S03's and the PS2's
5. Dunlops

In terms of wear:
1. GS-D3's
2. S03's
3. Pilot Sport
4. PS2's
Not enough miles on the dunlops to make a call but they definitely look like they would hold up better than the Michelins.

great review al

can you tell me what your thoughts on the goodyear gs-d3 vs. michellin ps2? Which is more comfortable and which is quieter? I am thinking of getting one of these two...

Thanks for the review.

One question - you mentioned dynamatting the front wheelwells, how do you go about doing that?

Curious about it because I know its weighty but it'd be nice if its significantly less road noise.

sounds like he was talking about dynamatting under the carpet where the floorboard is.. not the actually in the wheel well.
