when Infiniti Q45 came out in '89, it touted a PTFE, or Teflon-coated paint job that supposedly did not require any waxing for 5 years. Like Infiniti's active suspension or Honda Prelude's 4-wheel steering, it never caught on and fizzled after a few years. Teflon-coated windshield, on the other hand, does offer some benefits.

Teflon could only be an effective sealant if it were literally baked onto the finish. Applying teflon at air temperature is worthless, and a gimmick.
Do yourself a favor - save the money on the snake oil "protection" package, and put it towards a good wax or sealant (or both) that you can apply every couple of months. There is no such thing as a sealant that lasts years, regardless of what the dealer may tell you.

The only way I would really suggest getting this is if your car is black. I got it done with the 5 year warranty and don't regret it. I also got it done for very cheap because we knew the guy who was closing our deal, so that was one of the main reasons I got it. Something like $180.

If this is what I think it is, this is something car dealerships used to push heavily on customers in the late 80's and early 90's , along with (under body tar coating) to protect aganist rust.. Back then it was just a wax (containing teflon) wax job and a warranty aganist fading paint.. If it's that same deal, it's pretty much worthless, IMO.. Unless, they're just charing you $50 for the wax job..

Not worthless if your paint fades within the 5 year period! Here in AZ it's an issue. The sun is harsh on paint. It can easily ruin the clearcoat unless you are religious in keeping the wax and protectant on it. This teflon coat would be ideal for the person who doesn't care to wax regularly, especially in the desert. Oh, and it's $495 at the dealership and includes interior protection.
